Twenty years ago, WHAM began with a vision: connecting people through the arts. Today, we're celebrating how far that vision has come. ❤️

Our founder and director, Connie Whitlock, was recently featured in Voyage Phoenix, where she shares more about her life, her work, and the journey behind what she has built.

From the early days of WHAM to the community art center it has become today, Connie's vision has helped create opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience the arts, find community, and express themselves.

As we celebrate 20 years of WHAM, we're proud to recognize the person who helped make it all possible and everyone who has been part of the journey.

Here's to 20 years of connecting people through the arts!

Twenty years of WHAM looks different to everyone.
For one person, it might be the first painting they were brave enough to share.
For another, it might be finding community through a veterans art program.
It might be a child discovering a love of art.
A teen finding their voice.
A senior continuing to create.
An artist finding an opportunity to exhibit.
A volunteer finding a way to give back.
The programs may be different. The people may be different.
But the heart of WHAM has remained the same: connecting people through the arts.
Twenty years. Thousands of experiences. Countless individual stories.
And we’re still creating what comes next. 💙

🎃 WHAM on Wheels brought a little Halloween creativity to the El Mirage YMCA's Trunk or Treat!

With support from APS, WHAM provided a fun art experience where kids got to "carve" jack-o'-lanterns with Q-tips and experiment with monoprinting, creating all kinds of unique and festive artwork. 🧡

We're grateful to APS for supporting opportunities that bring art and creativity to our community!

Twenty years of creating opportunities, inspiring creativity and building community looks something like this:
🎨 300+ members
🤝 100+ volunteers
🏙️ 11 West Valley cities and towns served
🏘️ 20+ neighborhoods reached through WHAM On Wheels
🚌 9,000+ youth served through WHAM On Wheels
🎖️ 504 veterans impacted
💙 480+ special-needs and Alzheimer’s students impacted
👧 2,200 youth served through summer programs
🎤 3,000+ people impacted through spoken-word programming
👣 6,500 annual visitors to the center
🌎 60,000+ people reached each year overall
And behind every number is a person.
That’s the real story of 20 years of WHAM.
