COPS & KIDS — BACK TO SCHOOL 2026

This past weekend, the Fraternal Order of Police, Maricopa Lodge 5 proudly hosted our COPS & KIDS Back to School Event at Walmart in Surprise, Arizona.

Officers, troopers, deputies and corrections personnel from Buckeye Police Department, Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Peoria Police Department and MCSO Corrections came together to make a difference for 59 local kids.

22 students from Arlington Elementary and 37 students from Avondale Middle School, Lattie Coor and Elise C. Felix were able to shop alongside law enforcement for the things they needed to start the school year right.

The kids received school supplies, backpacks, clothes, shoes, hygiene products and other much-needed items. Most importantly, they left with smiles and memories that will hopefully last well beyond the first day of school.

In total, $12,168.13 was spent directly on these kids and their needs.

This is what community policing is all about, building relationships, creating positive experiences and showing our youth that law enforcement is here to support them and their families.

A huge thank you to every officer, deputy, trooper, corrections member, volunteer, school staff member and Walmart associate who helped make this event possible.

🚸 School Is Back in Session – Slow Down & Stay Alert! 🚸

As students across Arizona & in Maricopa County head back to the classroom, the Fraternal Order of Police, Maricopa Lodge 5 reminds everyone that school is back in session, and the safety of our children is everyone's responsibility.

🚔 Law enforcement officers and deputies will be actively enforcing traffic laws in and around school zones and residential neighborhoods. Drivers who speed through school zones, ignore crossing guards, fail to stop for school buses, or drive recklessly where children are present can expect enforcement action.

Please remember:

🛑 Slow down in school zones.
🚸 Watch for children crossing streets and riding bicycles.
🚌 Stop for school buses when required by law.
👮‍♂️ Obey crossing guards and all traffic signs.
🏡 Drive cautiously through neighborhoods where children may be walking to and from school.

A few extra seconds behind the wheel can make all the difference. No destination is worth risking the life of a child.

Let's work together to make this school year a safe one for every student, parent, teacher, crossing guard, and school bus driver.

Drive responsibly. Slow down. Stay alert. Help keep our kids safe.

🎒📚 Back-to-School Success! 📚🎒

The Fraternal Order of Police, Maricopa Lodge 5 was honored to partner with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office District 3 for their annual Back-to-School Backpack Event!

Thanks to the generosity of our donors & supporters, Maricopa Lodge 5 personally purchased and donated 200 backpacks to help students start the new school year prepared for success. These backpacks were distributed to children attending:

🏫 Nadaburg School
🏫 Aguila School
🏫 Discover U Elementary

A very special thank you to Deputy Cornwell of MCSO District 3, a proud member of FOP Maricopa Lodge 5, for reaching out and inviting us to be part of this incredible event. Without his efforts and commitment to the community, this partnership would not have been possible. We are grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside him and make a positive impact on so many young lives.

Honoring the Fallen. Representing with Pride.

The Fraternal Order of Police, Maricopa Lodge 5 is proud to recognize Trustee Deputy Tapley, who was hand-selected to assist during the 2026 Arizona Fraternal Order of Police State Conference Memorial Service.

Deputy Tapley had the distinct honor of serving alongside fellow law enforcement officers from agencies and lodges across Arizona, escorting those who came forward to light a candle in remembrance of the brave men and women of law enforcement who have recently made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Memorial Service serves as a solemn reminder that while the badge may differ, the commitment, sacrifice, and brotherhood shared among law enforcement officers remain unwavering.

We are honored to have Deputy Tapley not only as a member of Fraternal Order of Police, Maricopa Lodge 5, but also as one of our dedicated Trustees. His professionalism, service, and representation of our Lodge exemplify the values of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Happy Independence Day!

Today, we proudly celebrate 250 years of American Independence, 250 years of freedom, courage, resilience, and the enduring spirit that has shaped our great nation.

As we gather with family and friends to celebrate this historic milestone, we also pause to honor the countless men and women who have served and continue to serve in defense of our freedoms. We extend our deepest gratitude to the brave law enforcement officers, first responders, members of our Armed Forces, veterans, and their families whose dedication and sacrifice help keep our communities and our nation safe.

The Fraternal Order of Police, Maricopa Lodge 5 is proud to stand beside those who have answered the call to serve and to support the law enforcement profession while strengthening the communities we are privileged to protect.

💙💛 LAW ENFORCEMENT CHILD MONTH 💙💛

Today marks the official launch of the inaugural Law Enforcement Child Month, and the Fraternal Order of Police, Maricopa Lodge 5 is proud to join the Fraternal Order of Police, the FOP Auxiliary, and Gratitude Initiative in recognizing the incredible children and families who stand behind those who serve.

Behind every law enforcement officer is a family that also answers the call to serve. Our children experience missed holidays, long shifts, late-night calls, and the uncertainty that comes with a career dedicated to protecting others. Their resilience, strength, and unwavering support deserve to be recognized and celebrated.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country and our freedom.

Memorial Day is more than a holiday, it is a time to reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who gave everything for the nation we love.

On behalf of Fraternal Order of Police, Maricopa Lodge 5, we extend our deepest gratitude to all fallen heroes and their families. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
