Altrusa International is a global volunteer service organization whose purpose is to promote better communities through service by an international network of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. In the spirit of altruism - to give selflessly - Altrusans share human and financial resources in their local communities, support non-governmental organizations through foundation grants, and provide humanitarian relief through multiple avenues. serves the West Valley of the Phoenix metropolitan area, focusing on service in literacy and in creating partnerships with other local like-minded groups. One of the target projects this year is to support S.T.E.M projects and learning in the Northwest Valley.

As a continuation of Altrusa of the West Valley’s partnership with FedEx to provide activity kits for children and their siblings receiving care at Phoenix Children’s hospital in Avondale, members held a packing party early this week at the library in Peoria. This collaborative activity resulted in 800 activity kits that were delivered to PCH’s emergency department today by Club Treasurer Candy Mayhew.

Altrusa of the West Valley participated in a packing party for Women4Women at our September regular meeting. The kits we packed included tampons, liners, wipes and pads to be distributed all over the area to shelters, schools, libraries, clinics, community centers and other locations that have contact with women, girls, and families that may not have resources to purchase feminine hygiene products. Before we began our packing efforts, Jo Grant, the organizer for Women4Women, educated our members and guests about the hardship associated with obtaining these products. One of the most impactful statements was that we have all felt the negative impact the extraordinary increase in grocery prices over the last year; pricing for these products have outpaced the rise in groceries by nearly 3 times. Our efforts result in nearly 150 kits being produced for distribution, helping nearly 150 women and girls to be able to attend school, go to work, and participate in their communities for the next month.

In addition to this project and our regular monthly meeting, we welcomed 5 guests/potential new members to our meeting. Altrusa of the West Valley continues to grow and expand our reach in serving others in our communities!

Thank you so much for all the interest and excitement about our upcoming Board Building charcuterie workshop taking place this coming Saturday. Altrusa of the West Valley is pleased to announce that our reservations have been finalized and are now closed.
