Please become a fan today & support our mission to help homeless animals find their forever homes. was founded by husband and wife team, Shirley Moore and David Bernier, of Wayland, Mass. After volunteering at local shelters and seeing the detrimental effect that kennel life had on some dogs, they decided to begin fostering and to build a foster network for the dogs they took in from local and remote dog pounds. They targeted many of the big city shelters and would load up their vans with many adoptable dogs, foster them, provide medical care and a holistic protocol, and put them up for adoption to approved homes. Save A Dog has grown over the years and now we have over 100 volunteers who help on an as-needed basis, and approximately 25-30 volunteers who help on a weekly basis. With over millions of pets being euthanized annually, our goal is to save as many lives as we can with the limited resources that we have. One way to maximize the number of lives we can save at one time is to bring in groups of a dozen or so dogs at one time. Puppies are thrown in dumpsters, drowned, or left in a box in the woods to die. We work with several humane societies in the south who are overwhelmed with dogs. They foster the dogs for us prior to sending them up for adoption. The dogs we receive from rural humane societies all would otherwise have been put to sleep. We also take in many dogs from local owners who can no longer care for them.

Meet Opie, a 2-year-old Chihuahua/Min Pin mix with 22 pounds of sweetness and a talent for making himself cozy!

Opie is quiet at first, but he warms up quickly. Once he feels comfortable, he loves being close to his people, especially for cuddles. He gets along beautifully with his foster buddies, Trixie and Felix, enjoys plush squeaky toys, and walks nicely on a leash.

This good boy appreciates the simple pleasures: a sunny spot, a comfy bed near you, and keeping you company while you watch TV or work on your computer. He’s also discovered that a cushioned perch by the front window is the perfect place to keep a watchful eye on the neighborhood!

Opie is fully house-trained and sleeps peacefully through the night in his crate. Playful, affectionate, and happy to settle in beside you, he’s ready to find a family to call his own.

Meet Gracie, a sweet and spunky 7-month-old Dachshund/Terrier mix who’s ready for a fresh start!

Gracie has a special connection to Massachusetts! She was born right here to a rescue mama who made her way up from the South. Adopted at just 8 weeks old, Gracie has been loved and cared for her entire life. Unfortunately, a change in her family’s circumstances means this adorable girl is looking for a new home.

Gracie is an affectionate little pup who loves to cuddle and be close to her people. She’s also full of puppy energy and has plenty of personality! She’s still learning the ropes and would love a family willing to help her grow into a well-mannered companion.

Gracie is making good progress with house training and does well with a consistent routine and frequent potty breaks. She sleeps comfortably in her crate overnight without accidents, which is a great start! She’ll also need some guidance with leash training, as she’s still learning how to navigate the world on walks.

Gracie has been a little unsure around children, so gentle, patient introductions will be important as she gains confidence.

At just 7 months old, Gracie has her whole life ahead of her. She’s looking for an adopter who understands that puppies need patience, consistency, and a little guidance along the way. In return, they’ll get a loving, playful companion who’s happiest when she’s close to her favorite people.

Could Gracie be the missing piece of your family?

Annie is a 4-year-old Husky/Collie mix with a gentle soul and so much love to give!

Her foster describes her as calm, loving, adaptable, and an absolute sweetheart. She’s the kind of dog who’s just as happy joining you for a hike as she is curling up beside you for a quiet evening at home.

Annie has wonderful house manners! She’s housetrained, quiet, non-destructive, and perfectly content relaxing on her dog bed or lounging next to her favorite person.

She loves going for walks, has great leash manners, and has the stamina to keep up on longer adventures. She’s also friendly with other dogs of all sizes, loves meeting new people, and rides nicely in the car!

One of Annie’s most endearing qualities? She’s figured out how to tell her humans exactly what she needs! 🥹

🐾 Hungry? She’ll head over to her food bowl.

🐾 Want some affection? She’ll gently nudge your arm with her nose or give you a little paw.

🐾 Need to go outside? She’ll head to the door or let you know she’s getting restless.

She’s a thoughtful, communicative girl who really enjoys connecting with her people.

Joy may be tiny, but she has so much love to give! Could you be the one to give this sweet girl her happily ever after?

Jack and his sister, Jill, were found lying in the middle of a rural Indiana road, nursing from their mom, Jenna, when they were picked up by one of our rescue partners. They are very lovable calm 14 week old pups each in search of their own forever family. They enjoy toys, lots of affection, good food, treats, chew sticks, and peaceful puppy naps. They have been in a loving foster home and will be a special addition to any family.

Jack & Jill are each available for adoption in Sudbury, MA

Meet Emily!

Short legs, big personality, and an even BIGGER heart!

Emily is a 3-year-old, 25 lb sweetheart who looks like someone mixed a Bully, a Corgi, and a Dachshund together and came up with the most adorable little low-rider!

But her best feature? Her personality.

Emily is the kind of dog who runs right up to you and asks for a hug. She’s incredibly affectionate, loves to cuddle, and seems to have a special way of tuning in to her people. She’s sweet, sensitive, and just wants to be close to someone who loves her.

And she’s more than just a professional snuggler! Emily loves swimming, enjoys daily playgroups with other dogs, and lived in a house with both dogs and cats. She gets along great with her canine friends and politely ignores the cats!

If you’ve been looking for a dog who will greet you with a hug and happily snuggle up beside you, Emily might just be your girl.
