Vote for Maddie!

🏃‍♀️ VOTE FOR MADDIE! 🐾 Congratulations to SMFHS senior cross country athlete Maddie O’Brien, who is a finalist for the Akron Beacon Journal Athlete of the Week! 🗳️ Help Maddie earn Athlete of the Week honors by casting your vote on the Akron Beacon Journal website [use the link in comments].

On the morning of Homecoming, Maddie ran a lifetime-best 18:10.3 in the 5K, finishing second at the Madison U Wanna Come Back Invitational. Her time is just four seconds off the SMFHS school record held by current University of Maryland distance runner Jayla Atkinson and is currently the eighth-fastest Division I girls 5K time in Ohio this season!

Maddie’s performance also helped lead the Bulldogs to their first invitational championship of the season, finishing ahead of Hudson, Shaker Heights and CVCA.

And a fun full-circle moment: At the beginning of the season, the Beacon Journal named “Molly” O’Brien as an area athlete to watch. We think it’s safe to say they know Maddie’s name now! 😉👏

Congratulations, Maddie! ❤️💛
