Sam Walker saved Sam C**t….
If it wasn’t necessary for fighting off “illegals” from Mexico and Captain Walkers vision, Sam C**t would have still been selling hits of Nitrous on a street corner in the East.

In 1846 Captain Sam Walker sent a letter East looking for Sam C**t and asking him to produce a revolver capable of stopping a horse to “unseat” the rider. Previous C**t designs were 36 caliber, five shot, and too weak for the task, C**t wasn’t much of a marketer and the Paterson was a “gentleman’s” pistol as he thought of it. Combined those things had bankrupted C**t and he even lost his manufacturing facility.

The model 1847 (C**t’s revolvers were identified by the date) wasn’t called a “Walker”, that’s a modern moniker, and was largely manufactured in Eli Whitney’s plant.

There is a lot of lore concerning the cylinder and some gun writers love to expound on the cylinders bursting blaming C**t for bing cheap and using iron. Some say it was because the uneducated Rangers loaded the Picket bullets backwards and some think it was just the state of metallurgical practices of the time… It could very well be all of that but C**t made good and replaced the burst cylinders and modified the design in 1848 to be more practical.

It is thought that 1100 model 1847 revolvers were built with the initial order of 500, a second order of 500, and 100 civilian pistols. The military revolvers were supplied in pairs to each of the Rangers in the various companies. It is reported that the ordinance board complained that C**t only supplied accoutrements singularly to each pair of pistols. My opinion, like Sam C**t’s, would be that an untrained soldier or Ranger would only use one bullet mould and one flask. It is also my opinion that the second group of 500 1847 revolvers could’ve very well been what we now call a Whitneyville.

This pair of Uberti“walkers” are converted in a very basic style using the Kirst system in 45 C**t Cartridge and with an 11° forcing cone will be pretty accurate.
