Your baby has an incredible team watching over them. 🩺

Here's a quick guide to the people you'll meet in the NICU:

👩‍⚕️ Neonatologist — The specialist leading your baby's medical care
👩‍⚕️ Bedside Nurse — Your baby's primary caregiver (usually 1–2 babies per nurse)
🫁 Respiratory Therapist — Supports breathing
🤱 Lactation Consultant — Helps with pumping and breastfeeding
💛 Social Worker — Emotional support and connecting you to resources

Save this post to refer back to during your stay. Knowledge is power — and knowing your team helps you advocate for your baby.

Faces of H.O.P.E. is here to help you navigate every step.

Many families navigating high-risk pregnancies and NICU stays report challenges that fall entirely outside the scope of clinical treatment.

Limited understanding of medical terminology. Difficulty navigating complex healthcare systems under extreme stress. Lack of continuity after discharge.

These gaps aren't clinical failures they're system-level gaps that affect patient experience, emotional wellbeing, and long-term health outcomes.

At Faces of H.O.P.E., our programming is built to integrate with hospital workflows, not duplicate them. We provide:
• Trauma-informed peer navigation
• Civilian-military system navigation
• Post-discharge follow-up and continuity of care
• Maternal-infant health education and equity-focused support

We're actively seeking hospital and healthcare system partners who share our commitment to whole-family care.

Lived experience doesn’t replace clinical expertise, it complements it.

When systems listen to the voices of those who’ve lived through them, care becomes more human, more responsive, and more effective.

This is where advocacy meets improvement.

What a wonderful day for this family!!

Hi, I’m Nekia, the Founder of Faces of H.O.P.E. 💙

Faces of H.O.P.E. was created from lived experience walking through high-risk pregnancy, loss, and the NICU, and realizing how often mothers are expected to survive systems that were never designed with their emotional or mental health in mind.

Through our work with NICU families, we know that the NICU experience doesn’t just impact babies it deeply impacts parents, especially mothers, long after discharge.

We’re currently gathering input from NICU moms to better understand:
• What support actually helped
• What was missing
• What would have made navigating the NICU more humane, informed, and emotionally supportive

Your voice will directly inform future hospital-based programs, advocacy efforts, and resources led by Faces of H.O.P.E.

If you’ve experienced the NICU whether recently or years ago we invite you to complete our short survey. Your insight can help change how NICU families are supported moving forward.

Thank you for helping us turn lived experience into impact. 🤍

Education as Advocacy

01/07/2026

Faces of H.O.P.E. was established because too many families were navigating high-risk pregnancies, NICU stays, and loss without clear guidance, continuity, or advocacy.

What began as lived experience quickly revealed a systems issue.

Families don’t fall through the cracks because they aren’t resilient enough.
They fall through because systems aren’t designed to follow them—especially after discharge, during transitions, or across military installations.

In 2026, our direction is clear:
• Strengthening in-hospital and post-discharge education
• Expanding advocacy and navigation support for high-risk and NICU families
• Building collaborative models between hospitals, nonprofits, and military systems
• Designing programs that prioritize continuity of care—not fragmented support

This work isn’t about filling gaps temporarily.
It’s about helping redesign how care is delivered, experienced, and sustained.

Thank you to every family, provider, and partner who continues to inform this work.
