The Red Zone is a period on college campuses from the start of the fall semester (usually late August or early September through Thanksgiving break) in which the majority of sexual assaults involving college students will occur.

The largest at-risk group at risk are first-year and transfer students— they are in a new environment and can lack safe social support systems.

Remember, sexual assault is ALWAYS the fault of the perpetrator and never the fault of the victim.

This is a great reminder from Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence: Domestic violence doesn't only happen to adults. In fact, the CDC reports that 1 in 12 high school students experience physical dating violence.

As your kids prepare to return to school, take some time to go over the common signs of abuse with them.

National Women’s Equality Day 💜

Today, on National Women’s Equality Day, we celebrate the progress made toward equality for women—and recognize the work that remains.

At Centre Safe, we know that equality and safety are deeply connected. Every person deserves to live free from sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking, and abuse. Survivors deserve to be believed, supported, and empowered to make their own choices about what comes next.

Creating a safer, more equitable community means challenging systems and attitudes that allow violence to continue, supporting survivors, and ensuring everyone has access to advocacy and resources.

Today and every day, Centre Safe stands with women and all survivors. 💜

💰 National Financial Awareness Day 💰

Financial security is an important part of safety—but for many victims and survivors of sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking, financial stability can be difficult to achieve.

Abusive partners may control money, restrict access to bank accounts, damage credit, prevent someone from working, create debt, or use finances as a way to maintain power and control. For someone trying to leave an abusive relationship, the cost of housing, transportation, childcare, legal services, and everyday necessities can feel overwhelming.

At Centre Safe, we know that safety often requires resources. Donations help us provide advocacy, support, education, and connections to resources that can help survivors move toward greater safety, stability, and independence.

💜 Your donation can make a difference. Every gift helps Centre Safe stand beside victims and survivors as they navigate the challenges of healing and rebuilding their lives.

This National Financial Awareness Day, consider investing in safety, empowerment, and hope.

Donate. Educate. Advocate. Support survivors. 💜

💙 Welcome, Reliance Bank 💙

Centre Safe is proud to welcome Reliance Bank as our newest community supporter!

When local businesses invest in Centre Safe, they are investing in a safer, stronger community. Every partnership helps us provide critical support, advocacy, education, and resources to victims and survivors of sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking—while working toward a community where everyone can live free from violence.

Support from businesses like Reliance Bank makes a meaningful difference. It’s not just organizations that make this work possible—it’s the individuals, families, businesses, foundations, and community members who choose to stand with survivors and believe in prevention.

We are grateful to Reliance Bank for putting their support behind this important work and for helping Centre Safe continue to be there when survivors need us most. 💙

💜 National Senior Citizens Day 💜

Today, on National Senior Citizens Day, we recognize the wisdom, experiences, and contributions of older adults in our communities—and we’re reminded that violence prevention and safety are important at every age.

Older adults can face unique risks related to relationship violence, sexual violence, stalking, and financial exploitation. Isolation, dependence on caregivers, health or mobility challenges, and financial concerns can sometimes make it more difficult to recognize abuse, seek help, or safely leave an abusive situation.

That’s why Centre Safe’s AWARE program works to increase awareness, education, and violence prevention among older adults and those who support them. Through education and outreach, AWARE helps build knowledge about warning signs, healthy relationships, safety, and how communities can respond when concerns arise. Learn more by e-mailing [email protected] or call Executive Director Jennifer Pencek at 814-238-7066.

🌟 Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued—at every stage of life.

This National Senior Citizens Day, let’s make violence prevention part of caring for and protecting the older adults in our communities.

💜 Awareness creates understanding. Education creates action. Prevention creates safer communities.

💜 National Relaxation Day 💜

For many people, relaxation means taking a break, slowing down, or finding a moment of peace. But for survivors of sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking, feeling safe enough to truly relax isn't always easy.

Healing is not a straight path, and there is no "right" way to rest. Sometimes relaxation looks like taking a walk, spending time with a trusted friend, cuddling a pet, reading a book, practicing deep breathing, or simply making it through the day.

At Centre Safe, we recognize that healing happens at your own pace. Our confidential, trauma-informed advocates are here to support survivors with compassion, respect, and without judgment—because everyone deserves the opportunity to feel safe, empowered, and supported.

This National Relaxation Day, we encourage you to be gentle with yourself and others. Even the smallest moments of self-care can be meaningful steps toward healing.

💜 If you or someone you know needs support, Centre Safe is here. You are not alone.
