Anti-trans legislation and rhetoric are on the rise, intensifying the challenges our communities face and making our work more urgent than ever. THISTL steps into this crisis with community-driven solutions. THISTL (Trans Housing Initiative St. Louis) is a grassroots, trans-led organization working at the intersection of housing justice and trans liberation.
We believe that housing is not just a basic need, but a foundation for everything else: for safety, for healing, for community, and for thriving.

-Training and Policy Review for Emergency Shelters that serve TGNC individuals facing homelessness or unsafe living conditions.
-Mutual Aid; direct financial assistance to help with homelessness, rent, deposits, moving costs, and utilities.
-Education and Advocacy for TGNC individuals to achieve homeownership and/or financial wellness to empower long-term change.
-Collaborative partnerships with local and statewide efforts to build stronger support systems and lasting impact.

As a community-based effort, we believe that every contribution matters; not just the financial ones, but the stories, relationships, and solidarity that come with it. That’s where you come in.

THISTL will be at the Metro Trans Umbrella Group starting at 2PM today to share details about our upcoming programs before the TDOV rally begins at 5:30 PM. THISTL is collaborating with LifeWise StL to offer Economic Wellness courses specifically for trans and gender-expansive humans. Topics include Goal Setting, Financial Trauma, Budgeting/Savings, Credit, Insurance, and Consumer Rights.

What is the hatch fund? Hatch Fund is a match savings program run by LifeWise StL that supports transgender and gender expansive people in establishing and attaining their savings goals. This fund offers both in-depth personal finance education and money towards a pre-selected goal (see full details and requirements on our website!).

What’s Available? Limited spots are available. Upon completing the listed program requirements, you will receive $3,000 from LifeWise StL towards your saving goal. Registration is open for July 2026 Economic Wellness classes. Note that by signing up for this program, you are signing up for the Economic Wellness classes as well as the Hatch Fund wait list.

Save $1,000, Get $3,000 Requirements:
1. Complete a mandatory in-person orientation session May 4th, 2026
2. 8 Finance Education classes (begins July 7th 2026) which are primarily in-person, with virtual accommodations available by request
3. 1 in-person intake session to be scheduled within 1 month of your final Finance Education class
4. 5 individual coaching sessions with a LifeWise financial social worker
5. $20 minimum monthly deposits into a secured savings account with St. Louis Community Credit Union
6. Minimum 6 months, maximum 2 years to complete program
7. Must not exceed income limit

Trans Day of Visibility is almost here, so come celebrate with us at the Center! During our normal open hours on the 31st we'll be grilling food, playing games, and taking comfort in community! We hope to see you there!

🎉Exciting announcement! We are thrilled to be able to share the results of our 2026 Mutual Aid & Rental Assistance campaign: Together we distributed a total of $8,108 and exceeded our last year's total by more than $600!

Thanks to everyone who donated and who took the time to apply with us, we managed to give direct financial assistance to 19 different trans and gender nonconforming adults in the metro region. If you donated, just know that your generosity made all the difference in the world, whether it was $3 or $3,000. The power of community coming together to support those in need is a beautiful thing that we need more of during these trying times 💗🏳️‍⚧️

There will be a transparency report on our website soon at www.thi-stl.org/assistance/. We will be collecting donations closer to the end of 2026 so we can open applications for assistance again in Spring 2027! If you missed out on this round of funding, be on the lookout for when applications reopen.
