Join us tonight at 6 p.m. CT for a pre-election prayer service as we come together in a spirit of unity, hope and healing. As we approach the midterm election, let us pause to pray for a fair, just and peaceful election process and for the well-being of our communities. All are welcome.

A welcoming home can change lives.

For generations, the Carondelet Motherhouse has been a place of prayer, hospitality, community and shared purpose. Today, it continues to serve sisters from multiple congregations while welcoming others seeking spiritual nourishment and connection.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Jane Schaper, who died Oct. 12 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis at the age of 82.

Sister Jane devoted her life to education, serving for 45 years as a teacher, principal and administrator. Her ministry took her to schools in Georgia, Texas, Alabama and Missouri, including more than two decades of faithful service in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. In later years, she continued her ministry as a certified nursing assistant at Nazareth Living Center, caring for others with compassion and dedication.

“We celebrate with her today as she has been warmly embraced by the God she so lovingly served her whole life,” says Sister Kathleen Karbowski. “She gave us a wonderful example of what it means to be a faithful Sister of St. Joseph.” May she rest in peace.

In 1650, six ordinary women, under the guidance of Jean Pierre Medaille, SJ, joined together in community under the patronage of St. Joseph in Le Puy-en-Velay, France.

These six women had a common desire to grow in their love of God and serve the unmet needs of the people around them, whom they came to call their “dear neighbors.” From their humble beginnings in a small kitchen, the order grew to include communities all over the world.

As we celebrate Founders’ Day today, let us give thanks for each of the thousands of Sisters of St. Joseph whose faithfulness has brought us to this day.
