Each year Forai walks alongside 8-12 refugee and immigrant women on the artisan/artisan-admin team and 20-30 women who take part in community sewing classes. Forai works to foster dignity and help these women’s stories be heard. We help empower them economically with income earned from their work. And Forai creates community, a space where women from different backgrounds and cultures are mutually giving and receiving. Mission Statement: Forai, Inc., is a faith-based, Christian 501(c)3 organization partnering with local refugee and immigrant women to enable the realization of economic, educational, and social goals through training and peer support, and by expanding market opportunities for artisans.

Forai is currently actively looking for more refugee women in the St. Louis area to earn supplemental income for their families by becoming a Jewelry Artisan. This is a rare opportunity to start quickly--usually we have a waitlist of women wanting to join our program. But right now we have space for several new artisans to join us immediately.

No experience required! The only qualifications are that the person is a refugee woman who has a valid work permit for employment in the U.S., that her family's household income is below 2x the national poverty line, and that life circumstances currently prevent her from working a full-time job (such as young children at home). Ideal candidates would already know some English, with a desire and willingness to learn more; live near to our South City workshop or have access to transportation of some kind; and enjoy creating beautiful things.

Artisans receive fair market wages up front for all jewelry they create. Their work is primarily done on their own schedule from home. We provide all the supplies and tools they need! In addition, they receive paid training 2x per month, as well as being paired with an American mentor/English practice partner.

Okay, so we admit, these aren't the first items that come into your mind when you think of back-to-school shopping, but maybe they SHOULD be! After all, this is a big transition not just for the kiddos, but for moms as well! And our Kirkwood store has the items that will elevate her routine and make every day just a bit smoother and more enjoyable.

Jewelry and stationary items are available for purchase online. All other items are in store only, so come visit us in Kirkwood to grab a little something for yourself or the mom in your life who is handling all the back-to-school logistics. :)

Do you have a truck or SUV, and 1-2 hours to spare once a month? 🙌

We're looking for a few strong volunteers to help us haul, set up, and take down our booth at local pop-up markets like Tower Grove Farmer's Market and holiday craft fairs around St. Louis — and the impact is bigger than it sounds.

Every market we attend is an opportunity to get handmade jewelry and gifts from our refugee women artisans in front of new customers, generate income that goes directly back to the women who made each piece, and share a story that deserves to be heard.

Without volunteers who can help with the heavy lifting, we simply can't be in as many places — which means fewer sales, fewer hours of fair-wage work, and fewer women served. Your 1-2 hours a month changes that equation.

Here's what we need:
🚗 A pickup truck or SUV with seats that fold down
💪 Ability to lift and move up to 60 lbs
📅 Availability on an occasional evening or weekend

This is a great opportunity for anyone — especially men — who want to make a tangible, meaningful contribution to Forai's mission without a major time commitment. You don't need to know how to make or sell jewelry. You just need to show up and be strong. 😄
