Rise partners with communities to build stronger, more equitable St. Louis area neighborhoods. How do we do it? We make a difference!

We provide technical assistance to help neighborhood organizations realize and maintain their visions of positive change. We partner with neighborhood organizations to develop housing and other improvements to revitalize neighborhoods. We provide development consulting and historic preservation consulting services, as well as mapping and database management services, empowering both nonprofit orga

nizations and for-profit developers to effect sustainable neighborhood revitalization. We provide pre-development funding to enable nonprofit organizations to begin work on difficult, important redevelopment projects where conventional financing is not available. We are a conduit for knowledge between organizations, residents, and institutions facing similar struggles and working toward similar goals, bringing consistency to the region-wide community development process.

Rise is looking for a strategic, mission-driven Director of Finance to lead financial operations across our organization and 60+ real estate affiliate entities. If you care about strengthening St. Louis neighborhoods and supporting affordable housing, this senior leadership role may be the perfect fit.

What You’ll Do
📌 Lead organization-wide financial operations, including accounting, internal controls, treasury, and audits
📌 Guide financial strategy and oversee multi-entity real estate financials with our Director of Asset Management
📌 Manage CDFI-related compliance, reporting, and loan portfolio functions
📌 Develop forecasts, scenario planning, and annual consolidated budgets
📌 Maintain relationships with bookkeeping partners, banks, investors & auditors
📌 Prepare financial reports for senior leadership, funders, and the Board

What We’re Looking For
✔ 5+ years of senior nonprofit finance leadership
✔ Experience with multi-entity or real-estate-affiliate structures (strongly preferred)
✔ Knowledge of LIHTC, underwriting, or affordable housing financing (a plus!)
✔ Strong skills in nonprofit accounting, grant compliance & financial analysis
✔ Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise or similar platforms

Compensation & Benefits
💼 Salary: $115,000–$130,000

🏆 We’re honored! Tonight in Chicago, Rise is proud to receive a 2025 Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Award from Landmarks Illinois for the adaptive reuse of the historic Granite City YMCA — now beautifully transformed into the Edison Avenue Art Lofts.

This recognition celebrates the power of preservation to uplift communities and create lasting impact. The Granite City YMCA, once a cornerstone of civic life, now provides affordable housing and creative space for artists — a true testament to what thoughtful redevelopment can achieve. The development builds on a thriving local arts community, meeting the demand for safe, affordable, and creative places to call home across the region!

🎉 Team Spotlight! 🎉

We’re proud to celebrate Matt Bauer for presenting at this month’s 2025 APA Bi-State Conference, hosted by the APA - St. Louis Metro Section /APA Missouri and Arkansas Chapters!

His session, “Threading the Needle: Real Estate Finance, Planning and Policy,” tackled a critical challenge in community development: bridging the gap between financial decision-making and local planning.

Matt broke down key real estate finance concepts—like NOI, IRR, DSCR, and Cash Flow—for planners, architects, municipal staff, and elected officials. By walking participants through a basic project pro forma, he showed how zoning, incentives, and policy decisions directly shape development outcomes.

🏘️ The takeaway? A deeper understanding of the developer’s perspective empowers all stakeholders to craft policies that are not only feasible—but also equitable and impactful for communities.

👏 Huge thanks to APA Missouri and Arkansas for hosting such a thoughtful and timely conversation. And kudos to Matt for helping build bridges across disciplines!
