As the Illinois Association FFA prepares to celebrate **100 years** of premier leadership, personal growth, and career success, we're excited to continue our **100 Faces of Illinois FFA** celebration.

During the 100th Celebration, we'll be sharing the stories of former Illinois FFA members whose experiences in the organization helped shape their lives, careers, and communities. Our goal is to highlight **at least 10 members from each decade** as we honor a century of FFA in Illinois.

Today, we're highlighting the **1940s** — a decade of important milestones, new traditions, and continued growth for Illinois FFA.

**Did you know?**

• **1944** was the year the first Illinois FFA Executive Secretary, **D.G. Daniels**, was appointed. He served in the position for nearly two years.

• In **1946**, the Illinois Association FFA approved the establishment of a **state FFA band** for the annual convention, beginning a tradition that would become an important part of the Illinois FFA experience.

• In **1947**, the **Illinois Foundation FFA** was formed, creating an organization dedicated to supporting Illinois FFA members and programs.

• The **Mt. Sterling FFA Chapter** was the first state winner in **Parliamentary Procedure** during the **1947-48** school year.

• By **1949**, Illinois FFA had grown to **464 FFA chapters** across the state.

The 1940s were a time of tremendous growth and change for Illinois FFA, laying the groundwork for many of the traditions and opportunities that continue today.

As the Illinois Association FFA prepares to celebrate **100 years** of premier leadership, personal growth, and career success, we're excited to launch **100 Faces of Illinois FFA**.

During the 100th Celebration, we'll be sharing the stories of former Illinois FFA members whose experiences in the organization helped shape their lives, careers, and communities. Our goal is to highlight **at least 10 members from each decade** as we honor a century of FFA in Illinois.

Today, we're highlighting the **1930s** a decade of remarkable growth, new traditions, and expanding opportunities for Illinois FFA members.

Did you know?
• **Ivan Peach** of Walnut High School won the first Illinois FFA State Public Speaking Contest on June 20, 1930.
• Every Illinois FFA State Convention throughout the **1930s** was held in Champaign.
• Illinois FFA members competed in events that are no longer part of today's convention, including **horseshoe pitching, State Champion Softball games, and swimming**.
• As membership and the number of local chapters continued to grow, Illinois FFA expanded from **12 sections** to **15 sections** in **1931-32**, and then to **20 sections and 4 divisions** in **November 1939**.
• The **first Leadership Training School** was established in **1930**, beginning a long tradition of developing student leaders across Illinois.

As the Illinois Association FFA prepares to celebrate **100 years** of premier leadership, personal growth, and career success, we're excited to launch **100 Faces of Illinois FFA**.

Today, we're taking it all the way back to the **1920s** where it all began.

Did you know?
• In the fall of **1928**, at a teachers' convention at Illinois State Normal University in Normal, State Supervisor of Agricultural Education **J.E. Hill** introduced Illinois agriculture teachers to the newly formed Future Farmers of America and encouraged them to establish the organization in Illinois.
• On **June 12, 1929**, students and advisors gathered in the auditorium at the University of Illinois to officially organize the **Illinois Association of Future Farmers of America**.
• The first Illinois FFA State Officer Team included:

* President: **Homer Edwards** (Antioch)
* Secretary-Treasurer: **Wilson Bryant** (Waverly)
* Reporter: **Randall Hart** (Beardstown)
* Advisor: **J.E. Hill** (Springfield)
