📚 Tutor Referral Campaign: Your Questions, Answered! 💙

Wondering how our reading tutor program or our August Tutor Referral Campaign works? We’ve got answers!

❓What does a reading tutor do?
OLC tutors work one-on-one with a child or adult learner to help them build their reading skills, confidence, and a love of reading.

❓How much time does tutoring take?
Just one hour a week! Your consistent time and encouragement can make a lasting difference.

❓Do I need to be a teacher?
Nope! You don’t need to be a reading expert or a certified teacher. OLC provides the training, curriculum, and materials you need to get started.

❓Where does tutoring happen?
Tutoring can take place in person or online. We match the preference of the learner with the preference of the tutor.

❓What if I don't know how to teach reading?
That's what we're here for! OLC provides the training and resources you need to feel prepared and supported. You just bring your love of reading and enthusiasm!

❓Who can I refer during the August referral campaign?
A friend, family member, coworker, neighbor, fellow book lover. Anyone you think would make a caring, encouraging tutor!

❓What is the August referral campaign?
During the month of August, any current tutor who refers a person who becomes a confirmed OLC volunteer tutor, will both receive a free volunteer t-shirt!

❓What's the deadline?
The deadline is August 31, 2026!

❓How do I refer someone?
Send your referral here: https://ozarksliteracy.org/august-2026-reading-tutor-referral-campaign/ or to ozarksliteracy.org. Under the tutor dropdown at the top of the page, they can click on “Refer a Tutor!” for more information and to get signed up.

Today, the world lost a true icon.

Dolly never forgot what it was like to grow up without much, or to watch her own father struggle because he never learned to read. So she did something about it. Over 200 million books were mailed to children around the world because she believed every child deserved the chance to fall in love with a story.

She could've been remembered for her hit songs alone. But she chose to spend her life making sure children everywhere had access to books in their own homes.

Rest easy, Dolly. Thank you for the music, and thank you for the books. 🦋💔📚
