Rotary Club of Springfield

Rotary Club of Springfield 100+ Years of "Service Above Self", friendship, community, and development. Find your place Downtown.

For more than 100 years, Rotary has been an organization of business and professional people united in the idea of service to others. With over 1.2 million members in more than 200 countries, Rotary is one of the world’s largest service organizations. Rotary primarily works through its 34,000 independent clubs. Some may wonder why Downtown Rotary is also known at The Rotary Club of Springfield eve

n though there are other Rotary clubs in town. The Rotary Club of Springfield (aka Downtown Rotary) was the first Rotary Club to be chartered in Springfield Missouri on June 1st, 1919. Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary International, was among our guests of honor that day. Our club has been a community leader on many fronts ever since. Some of our highlights over the years have included bringing the Boy Scouts to Springfield and joining with the other five Rotary clubs to purchase two Mobile Food Pantry trucks for Ozarks Food Harvest. Downtown Rotary was the leading supporter in a fundraiser to purchase a mobile tooth truck for Jordan Valley Community Health Center. Downtown Rotary is a great way to join forces with the leaders in our community. We believe in building strong friendships by helping each other while giving back to make Springfield a better place to live and raise our families. “Service Above Self” means we focus on improving not only our community, but lending a hand around the world to provide opportunities for future generations.

LOVE WHERE YOU LIVE. 💙

That was the message behind today’s Rotary program with Whitney Mosley of the Hatch Foundation, who shared the story and mission of Celebrate Springfield.

More than an annual event, Celebrate Springfield works year-round to help residents discover the people, places, events and experiences happening right here in our community — because there’s always something new to discover in your own backyard.

Thank you, Whitney, for joining us and reminding us that stronger communities start with connection. ✨

✨Why Rotary? Meet Kelsea Suarez.

Kelsea joined Rotary looking for meaningful relationships with people who shared her heart for service-people who weren't just interested in talking about making a difference, but were willing to show up and help make it happen.

Why does she keep coming back?

"I like who I'm becoming because of Rotary." 💛

Through Rotary, Kelsea has met people who inspire her and quickly became good friends, found opportunities to grow both professionally and personally, and learned about everything from our community to the world around us through the stories, experiences, and expertise shared by fellow members and weekly speakers.

For her, Rotary has become a place to serve, learn, connect-and keep growing into the kind of person she wants to be.

And outside of Rotary, Kelsea is an artist, crafter, and enthusiastic treasure hunter. 🎨✨ She loves graphic design, drawing, antiquing and thrifting, and she's currently planning to dip her brushes into watercolor.

One of her favorite thrift finds? A vintage ceramic owl cookie jar that now proudly watches over her kitchen from above the cabinets. 🦉

This Membership Month, we're celebrating the people who make Rotary what it is-and the ways being part of Rotary shapes us right back.

✨Why Rotary? Meet Jeni Hopkins.

For Jeni, "Service Above Self" is pretty hard to argue with.

She joined Rotary because she believed in the mission-and because she found a stellar team of people who believed in it, too.

One of her favorite things about Rotary is the incredible mix of local service and global impact. The same club that can roll up its sleeves and help an elementary school in our own community is also connected to Rotary's worldwide efforts to eradicate polio. 🌎💛

But it's the people who really keep Jeni coming back. She describes her fellow Rotarians as kind, caring, friendly, generous, and energetic-the kind of people you want beside you when there's work to be done.

And one very important thing you should know about Jeni?

🥊She thinks Rocky Balboa is a real person.

We're not going to ruin that for her.

This Membership Month, we're celebrating the people who prove that service can start right here at home-and reach much farther than we ever imagined.

✨Why Rotary? Meet Stephanie Hurt.

For Stephanie, Rotary felt like a natural next chapter.

After being involved with Rotaract and loving the experience, she knew she wanted to continue being part of the Rotary family.

What keeps her coming back? Friends, learning, and the chance to make our community better. Stephanie values the relationships she's built, the new things she gets to discover through Rotary, and the opportunity to serve alongside people who care about Springfield just as much as she does. 💛

And her fun fact might be one of the sweetest we've heard yet.

One of Stephanie's most prized possessions is a teddy bear named Mocha, given to her by her husband for their first Valentine's Day in 1995. 🧸💖 Mocha may look his age these days, but he still has a permanent spot in the bed with her.

This Membership Month, we're celebrating the friendships, experiences, and shared commitment to service that make Rotary feel a little bit like home.

Last week, Rotary Club of Springfield members traded meetings for meal prep and spent some time serving families at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks. 💙

Our volunteers whipped up some seriously tasty ham and cheese sliders and helped provide dinner for 30 people staying at the Springfield Ronald McDonald House.

Sometimes service looks like a big project. Sometimes it looks like a warm meal, a full plate, and one less thing for a family to worry about at the end of a long day.

We're grateful for every opportunity to roll up our sleeves, work together, and serve our community. 💖

📚 We're filling those shelves!

The Rotary Club of Springfield is proud to partner with the Ozarks Literacy Council - Missouri to bring its Reading Resource Program to Weaver Elementary School for the 2026–2027 school year and so far, we've raised a whopping $2,550 in two weeks!!

The Reading Resource Program allows volunteers to visit classrooms each month to read with students — and every student receives a copy of the featured book to take home, helping them build their own personal libraries and continue reading beyond the classroom. 💙

This is a great start, but we've still got a lot to go! Our goal is to raise $15,840 by December 31, which will be matched through Rotary grant funding for a total impact of $31,680 supporting books and resources for Weaver students.
Every gift helps us move one shelf closer to our goal — and puts more books directly into the hands of Springfield kids.

📖 Help us continue to Fill the Shelves and grow a love of reading at Weaver Elementary.

✨Why Rotary? Meet Danielle Wise.

For Danielle, Rotary is about two things that go hand in hand; meaningful relationships and meaningful action.

She joined to build connections while being part of projects that make a positive difference in our community. And those connections are exactly what have kept her coming back.

"The relationships I have built with fellow members" are one of Danielle's favorite parts of Rotary-proof that serving alongside people has a funny way of turning them into friends. 💛

And Danielle definitely knows a thing or two about going the distance. 🏃🏼‍♀️She has completed more than 30 half marathons!

This Membership Month, we're celebrating the people who show up, build relationships, and keep putting one foot in front of the other to make our community stronger.

✨Why Rotary? Meet Abby Jones.

Abby first joined Rotaract as a young professional looking to meet new people and get more involved in her community. What she found was something worth sticking around for.

Through service projects, shared Rotary values, and time spent together, those initial connections grew into deeper friendships-and eventually led Abby from Rotaract to Rotary.

One of the things that keeps her coming back? You never quite know what you're going to learn. 📚 As a lifelong learner, Abby loves the variety of our weekly programs and the change to walk away knowing something new-sometimes about a topic she never expected!

An outside of Rotary, one of Abby's favorite simple joys is taking her dog for a walk. 🐾 Seeing how happy it makes him never fails to put a smile on her face, too.

This Membership Month, we're celebrating the connections, experiences, and little moments that make Rotary feel like more than a weekly meeting.

✨Why Rotary? Meet Matthew Suarez.

Matthew's Rotary story started with a little nudge.

His boss encouraged him to join Rotaract because he was the only person in the office under 30. What began as a professional opportunity quickly became something much more meaningful.

Over the years, Rotary has brought Matthew lasting friendships, opportunities to lead and countless ways to serve alongside people he respects. It's even taken him around the world, giving him the chance to build relationships with fellow Rotarians internationally. 🌎

His favorite part? The combination of service and fellowship. Rotary gives him the opportunity to meet some of the movers and shakers in the community-and then roll up his sleeves and work right alongside them to make Springfield a better place.

And when he isn't serving his community? You might find him quite a bit farther below sea level. 🥽🐠Matthew is a Master Scuba Diver!

This Membership Month, we're celebrating the people, friendships, and experiences that turn joining Rotary into something worth staying for.
