Rotary Club of Springfield

Rotary Club of Springfield 100+ Years of "Service Above Self", friendship, community, and development. Find your place Downtown.

For more than 100 years, Rotary has been an organization of business and professional people united in the idea of service to others. With over 1.2 million members in more than 200 countries, Rotary is one of the world’s largest service organizations. Rotary primarily works through its 34,000 independent clubs. Some may wonder why Downtown Rotary is also known at The Rotary Club of Springfield eve

n though there are other Rotary clubs in town. The Rotary Club of Springfield (aka Downtown Rotary) was the first Rotary Club to be chartered in Springfield Missouri on June 1st, 1919. Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary International, was among our guests of honor that day. Our club has been a community leader on many fronts ever since. Some of our highlights over the years have included bringing the Boy Scouts to Springfield and joining with the other five Rotary clubs to purchase two Mobile Food Pantry trucks for Ozarks Food Harvest. Downtown Rotary was the leading supporter in a fundraiser to purchase a mobile tooth truck for Jordan Valley Community Health Center. Downtown Rotary is a great way to join forces with the leaders in our community. We believe in building strong friendships by helping each other while giving back to make Springfield a better place to live and raise our families. β€œService Above Self” means we focus on improving not only our community, but lending a hand around the world to provide opportunities for future generations.

A big thank you to Travis Rubelee for joining us today and giving us a closer look at the incredible work happening through Scouting America in the Ozark Trails Council.

We loved hearing more about how Scouting is evolving to meet families where they are-while still staying rooted in its mission of building character, leadership, and strong values in young people.

It's always inspiring to see organizations in our community working toward the same goal: creating a better future for the next generation. πŸ’™

Today marks 100 years since Route 66 was officially named!

On April 30, 1926, during a Rotary gathering in Springfield, Missouri, civic and highway leaders advanced the proposal that would give America its most iconic highway its enduring identity.

One hundred years later, Springfield remains proud of its role as the Birthplace of Route 66 - and Rotary continues its commitment to leadership, partnership, and service above self.

We celebrate this historic milestone with gratitude for the past and enthusiasm for the road ahead.

Happy 100th Anniversary, Route 66! πŸŽ‰

Today's Rotary District 6080 Annual Citywide Meeting was one to remember. πŸŽ‰πŸ‘

We had the honor of hearing from Spanish sculptor Juan Garaizabal, the artist behind the Ghost of the Colonial Hotel sculpture at the Birthplace of Route 66 Plaza.

Juan shared a powerful perspective: sometimes what we cannot see holds the most meaning. By honoring the memories of places and stories that once were, we create space for connection, reflection, and unity.

His message was a beautiful reminder that remembering-intentionally and together-is an ongoing process. One that invites us all to pause, reflect, and find common ground through shared emotion and experience.

The future of healthcare? It's being built right here in Springfield. πŸ₯

We had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. David Haustein, Associate Dean with the University of Missouri School of Medicine, to the Rotary Club of Springfield today - and what an exciting look at the future of healthcare in our community!

Dr. Haustein shared how the Springfield clinical campus is doing more than educating students - it's helping grow the next generation of physicians right here at home. With hands-on learning, strong mentorship, and deep community involvement, students are gaining the experience they need to make a real impact.

The numbers tell a powerful story: a growing program, hundreds of local physicians volunteering to teach, and students who often return to serve communities like Springfield after residency.

And momentum isn't slowing down:
β–Ά Expanding to a 4-year campus
β–Ά Increasing class sizes
β–Ά Continuing a community-driven approach to medical education

We're grateful for leaders like Dr. Haustein and partners like MU School of Medicine who are investing in healthier futures for Springfield and beyond.
