Last night was another spectacular night at the Fun & Friendly Club…Springfield Metro Rotary!

We are so glad all our visitors joined us tonight. It was so good to have you join us tonight.

As a reminder, we’re moving! Starting October 6, we’ll meet at the Sunshine Event Center in the Plaza Towers.

And so many people had Happy Bucks to share. We glad you wanted to share your happy news with Metro 😄

Cindy had the ticket to draw for the 50/50. The total is over $848 (wouldn’t that be nice with Labor Day weekend coming up!)

But she didn’t draw the Jack of Clubs. Better luck in next time!

Sean FitzGibbons, executive director of the History Museum on the Square, was our guest speaker.

The History Museum comprises 5 stories and 7 interactive galleries of our local history. They preserve one of the largest collections of objects and historical artifacts in the Southwest Missouri region.

If you haven’t been, you should check it out! And if you have been, maybe it’s time to see it again. 😄

Last night was a fantastic night with the Fun & Friendly Club, as we took Rotary on the Road to Mid-West Family Marketing - Springfield, MO!

The illustrious Kelley Lace, Sales Manager, showcased all the things Mid-West can do for clients. They’re more than 4 top radio stations and THE regional podcast network, they offer digital marketing solutions that help grow local businesses.

Kelley then took us on a tour of the stations and the guitar hallways (signed by your favorite artists), with special recognition to one signed by Dolly.

It was a great night! And we’re thankful for everyone who joined us.

Join us next week as we welcome Sean FitzGibbons, executive director of the History Museum on the Square.

Last night was another spectacular night at the Fun & Friendly Club…Springfield Metro!

We are so glad all our visitors joined us tonight. And at least one will be putting in an application! ☺️

A couple of important announcements…

We’re moving! Starting October 6, we’ll meet at the Sunshine Event Center in the Plaza Towers.

And next week’s Rotary on the Road is with Mid-West Marketing.

Rick Mixer had the ticket to draw for the 50/50. The total is over $777 (half of that would be so nice with Labor Day weekend coming up!)

But he didn’t draw the Jack of Clubs. Better luck in September!

Nancy Allen, attorney and best-selling author was our guest speaker. She co-writes thrillers with James Patterson. (Yes. THAT one!)

She took us on her journey from attorney to author.

In her writing career, all of her main characters (but one) are female. She regaled us with the story of how she started writing legal thrillers with James Patterson. Their first collab, “Juror Number 3” (released in 2018), premiered at number 1 on best-sellers list.

This was the beginning of a collaboration that extends to the day. She and Patterson have a new book releasing in November (just in time for the holidays!).

Nancy is now known as the Queen of the Hillbilly Law Thriller. Thank you, Nancy, for taking time out of your busy schedule to join us last night!

Last night at Rotary was another great night at the FUN club!

Five guests joined us this week. And we are so glad they chose to spend the afternoon with us.

We had SO many happy people! From kids starting college to birthday bashes and kitties getting well, we’re happy to celebrate life’s wins with you.

Todd Christensen had the ticket to draw for the 50/50. The pot was up to $777! Did he draw the winning ticket??

Not this week! Aww…better luck next time!

Our District Simplified Grant is a matching fund for purchasing Christmas wreaths for the military cemetery. Be watching for more information on how you can donate and participate.

The Rotaract DoubleDare trivia night is coming up in October (more to come)!

Tonight we got to know two of our newest members, Sheldon Slinkard and Alisa Lawler, a little better.

Last night at Rotary we welcomed Ada Montgomery, our RYLA summer camp student.

Thank you to all our guests who came to the FUN club.

The 50/50 pot was at $739, and David Snodderly had the ticket to draw the winning card. But did he???

He did not. Womp, womp. Better luck next week!

The annual Route 66 celebration is this weekend! Rotary is looking for volunteers. If you want to volunteer this weekend, please see Jen’s email from last Saturday (August 1).

Our guest speaker was high schooler, Ada Montgomery. Ada was our student for RYLA summer camp. RYLA is the student leadership arm of Rotary that raises up the next generation of Rotarians and change makers.

The summer camp is a 4-day leadership camp for high school freshmen, sophomores, or juniors. As part of the camp, the students divide into groups and plan a community project.

Her group, the Sassy Seahorses, chose to focus on food insecurity in a small, rural community. Their project was a community garden that taught kids how to plant and tend to a garden, and then harvest the food to help support the community.

And their group won! (We’re so proud of you!)

One of her takeaways was people skills and teamwork, and she knows she’ll be using these skills for the rest of her life.

Ada didn’t know what Rotary was before knowing she was nominated for the camp (which is not uncommon). She’s learned that it’s a great place to build friendships and make a difference in the community.

Padgett Smith closed the meeting by announcing our district grant project for the year: purchasing (and placing) wreaths on the gravestones in the veterans cemetery. (Mark December 19 on your calendar.) We’re doing this in partnership with Southwest Rotary.

Last night we took Rotary on the Road to the Plaza Towers.

Co-owner Steve Belden was our tour guide. The Daily Blend Coffee & Smoothies is the social hub of the Tower. They offer custom coffee blend from Nixa, bagels from NYC, and will soon be offering freshly baked muffins and cookies baked at Scratch & Co. local bakers provide cheesecakes and seasonal flavor cakes. They also have 2 private rooms available free of charge.

The Sunshine Event Center is 5,000 square feet of meeting space. They have a full bar and a prep kitchen on-site. They have an amazing tech package. 28 TVs, 3 cameras that track presenters, and a host of Bose speakers. They can even stream to anywhere in the world.

The Rooftop can be booked. When it’s not being used, it’s part of Scratch & Co. The rooftop will have a full service bar, with lounge furniture and fire pits. It will have a grand opening on Aug 21 from 7-10pm. There will be no cover charge for the event. (Did anyone else hear what the August pop-up will be?)

Scratch & Co. is the on-site restaurant. It’s an almost 100%- from scratch kitchen. Breads and cakes are locally sourced. It seats 100 inside and 60 on the patio. They have 2 private dining rooms, one that seats 10, the other seats about 25. Each dining room has a dedicated AV system.

Fun fact: they sell 25-30 cheesecakes every week between the Daily Blend and Scratch & Co.

Last night was our opportunity to “get to know” the club committees with our version of speed dating!

But before all that…we’re so glad to have our visitors join us this week. And of course, the Fun Club shared our happiness. (Has anyone seen Laney Hamilton-Yocom on the Least of These billboards?)

Our guest, Michael Sicilia, had the right ticket to draw for the 50/50. But he didn’t have the winning card (Jack of Clubs).

We had our first annual Springfield Metro Speed Club Committee Dating. This was member and guest opportunities to meet the committee chairs and learn more about our committees. Everyone was given the opportunity to join one (or more) committee! And true to form, it was anything but dull. (Not going to mention Delaney bringing candy for her committee…)

Last night our new district governor, Brad Martens - Rotary DG 6080, was our guest speaker. We welcomed our guests and new member prospects. Thanks for being at our meeting tonight!

Our group is not only fun but we’re a HAPPY bunch! Jennifer Creed had the ticket to draw the winning card and win the pot of $635. And…. she didn’t draw the winning card. So sad Better luck next week!

We got to know our new district governor a little bit. (He’s from Columbia and an MU fan.). He’s also participated in several international project trips, including Uganda. Through these relationships and projects he’s been a part of, he’s shared how Rotary shapes communities internationally and how meaningful friendships can be formed across oceans.

Brad also shared his vision and goals for our district this year. He also compared our district to the bourbon process (check out that really cool slide).

As a reminder, we have a Lunkers game this weekend. If you’re coming, purchase your general admission tickets online, then let us know you’re coming on the Ignite app or DACdb so we can sit together. (Please bring your family and friends!)
