“Our adversary the devil is an accuser. Like the White Witch coming to stake her claim on Edmund’s life, he condemns us for our sins that we have verily committed. Paul talks about the hold the flesh still has on him in the beginning of Romans 7. He cries out, “Who will deliver me from this body of death?” The answer, as He continues here in chapter 8, is Christ Jesus. Christ took on flesh and humbled Himself to death, even on a cross, being then raised back to life, and in so doing condemned sin itself and clears us of our bloodguilt through the shedding of His own innocent blood.
This passage is a wonderful reminder of the beauty, power, and completeness of the gospel—a reminder I know I myself need to hear time and time again. When I fall short and the enemy comes to accuse me, I know I have a sure Advocate in Christ Jesus, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
