TWIG 33 Dayton Children's Hospital

TWIG 33 Dayton Children's Hospital TWIG stands for Terrific Women in Giving. We are an auxiliary of Dayton Children's Hospital committed to providing support to the hospital.

The 2026 pledge is to raise $300,000 for Developmental Rehabilitation. Terrific Women in Giving - TWIGs, an auxiliary of Dayton Children's Hospital, was founded in 1965. TWIG chapters have played an important role in helping Dayton Children's provide quality care for children throughout the region. Today, Dayton Children's is supported by 25 TWIG chapters that total over 400 members. TWIG members,

known as "Twigs", include daughters, mothers, grandmothers and teenagers. Each TWIG group hosts fundraising events throughout the year and provide numerous in-service volunteer hours at Dayton Children's. Since 1965, TWIGs have raised over $8.3 million for the hospital. Most members of TWIG 33 are located near the Springboro area. Our group is one of the larger TWIG groups and are involved in several fundraising activities with the TWIG Auxiliary and partner with other groups. We have several fundraising activities including Scrapbooking events (Crops) several weekends per year, make the most delicious Buckeyes sold at Sugar Plum, and hold an annual Party on the Patio for a Purpose.

Here is her story...My mother-in-law was a TWIG in the 80s and 90s in Dayton so I learned of the organization years before I had the privilege to join. I have always volunteered throughout my teen years and into adulthood. I’m a former Junior League of Cincinnati member and was drawn to that organization for supporting Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank- after having my first child, I couldn’t imagine struggling to keep her in diapers or having the basic resources mothers need. After my second child was born at 4 lbs, 6 weeks early, I had to have heart surgery two days later. I developed HeLLP syndrome and was struggling to survive. My baby was in the NiCU for weeks putting on weight and thriving as I healed from the hardest fight of my life. Without the cutting-edge technology, the care of qualified staff and the love I felt from people I never knew but who prayed for me, I surely wouldn’t be here today.❤❤ In the spirit of my life long dedication to voluntarism and my desire to help other mothers and families as they do their best to survive and find normalcy when up against the odds, I made the space in my very busy life to give back with TWIGS. The sisterhood, dedicated long-standing members and the mission were so inspiring to me. My husband’s mother passed before she could meet my children but in her honor and in celebration of my family’s triumph over life-threatening circumstances, my motivation to help others is deep-rooted and stronger than ever. My husband is a retired US Air force sergeant from Dayton and we met in the aerospace industry at Boeing. I am currently a Director of Quality at GE Aerospace and we live with our two beautiful children in Springboro.

Happy DAY OF THE CHILD!

The Day of the Child is a nationally known program that promotes the value and healthy habit of reading among all children, regardless of their socioeconomic status and cultural background. It connects kids and their families and introduces them to the world of books, languages, and cultures. 📚

While the Mission of the TWIGS is to raise money for Dayton Children's Hospital is much different - we all have one primary focus - 🌟👶CHILDREN!

Meet Melanie Whyte, a shining star of TWIG 33! 🌟 With over 30 years of dedication, she's worn many hats: Treasurer, Secretary, President Elect, and President of her Twig branch, as well as Projects Chair, Sugarplum Co-Chair, Gem City Jam Co-Chair, President Elect, and President at the Auxiliary level. 🙌 Joining TWIGS is a life-changing opportunity to make a difference in our community, forge unbreakable bonds, and have a blast! 🎉 It's amazing to be part of a vibrant community of over 200 like-minded individuals united for a common goal: improving healthcare for every child in our area. Melanie's heart beats for the Sugarplum Festival of Trees, a magical way to kick-start the holiday season while raising funds for a noble cause. ❤️ When she's not spreading joy, Melanie loves to unwind with a good book, scrapbooking, and cheering on her Cincinnati Reds and OSU Football teams. 📚🏈 She's also a dedicated volunteer with the Ohio GSP dog rescue group. 🐾 Married with two adult children, her family is a testament to the power of love and community. 💕 Her husband became an honorary TWIG in 2019, and her daughter followed in her footsteps, proving that kindness runs in the family! 💖

Meet Nikki Weber, the reigning Queen of TWIG 33! 🎉 She's been decking the halls (or should we say, trees?) since 2019 for the Sugarplum Festival. 🎄She joined TWIGs in 2021 and has loved crafting together with other women passionate about giving. She loves that TWIG allows her to do what she enjoys to make a difference. Although she would prefer to stick to decorating trees, she stepped outside of her comfort zone to become President of our group this year. We are SO glad she did! 🙌 - Thank you for all you do Nikki!❤️

Fun Fact about Nikki - she has lived in every state that begins with an O!
