Hello! I’m Matthew, I grew up the son of the organist and the choir director of First Lutheran in Greensboro, NC, and some of my earliest church memories are of trips to the Appalachian mountains for retreats to Lutheridge, and later youth group trips to Kure Beach on the NC coast. Lakeside reminds me deeply of the connection to God in such special places. In 2008 my wife Julie and I moved halfway across the continent from Brookly, NY to Des Moines to help start a multidisciplinary arts organization. After a career building mission-driven arts organizations in central Iowa, including the Des Moines Social Club and Iowa Stage Theatre Company, where I served as artistic director and did the fundraising, grants and development, I’m excited to connect with folks about all the amazing growth at Lutheran Lakeside Camp.
Our younger child has been a multi-year camper, and we know the amazing experience the staff and volunteers at Lakeside create. As we work towards some of the most exciting changes in the camp’s nearly six decades, I’m looking forward to sharing the great stories of Lakeside with folks who appreciate how important both the camp, and supporting its future, are to our community.
