What a great 2 weeks for Rutherford Outdoor Coalition & SAFE KIDS Rutherford Polk working on bicycle skills & education at Cliffside Elementary School then capping it off tonight at their Fall Festival. Our Fall Foliage Hike was fun and full of natural beauty! Our group of 5 made the challenging climb up to Rattlesnake Rock, Big Piney Mountain, and Little Piney Mountain on the Two Sisters and a View Loop, enjoying the cooler autumn air, the early changing of the leaves, and abundant fungi 🍂🍄 We even saw a beautiful snail and a clutch of bright orange juvenile Eastern Newts, also called efts! Needless to say, it was a great trip with plenty of great sights!

Thank you to those who participated in this hike and your bravery facing the rocky climb and descent. We hope to see you at another event soon!

ROC and our members welcomed fall on our second annual Members Fall Fun Float!🍂🛶 Our group paddled 7 miles on our beautiful Broad River, enjoying the sunny skies and chilly freshwater, with a bit of autumn colors peeping through. It was the perfect day for a paddle, and we thank our members who joined us for this event. You were a pleasure to paddle with!

And thank you to all of ROC's members for being a part of our organization and supporting the programs we provide for the community. We couldn't do it without you!

Show your love for our local trails and parks in Spindale on Saturday, November 7th! 🌿

We will be meeting at the ROC Office in Spindale and cleaning up the Thermal Belt Rail Trail and surrounding areas. Trash bags, gloves, visibility vests, and grabbers will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own gear if you have it. Join us after for snacks, drinks, and stickers!

This event is a part of a state-wide clean-up day in partnership with Keep Rutherford County Beautiful, Keep North Carolina Beautiful, and affiliates across the state. Learn more about the state-wide initiative here: https://www.keepncbeautiful.org/

Just a week left to register for our Fall Foliage hike at Montreat: don't miss the incredible view and the wonderful autumn forests on the Two Sisters and A View loop! Join us on Monday, October 12th at 10AM!

This hike is about 3.6 miles with 1400ft of elevation gain. Though a challenging climb, it is sure to be a great experience. Plus, we will take our time and help each other along. Trekking poles are highly encouraged!
