Moon Rocks is open again following the containment of fires in the area, but note that we are still in fire season and need everyone to help keep our community safe.

Public land closure lifted at Moon Rocks Recreation Area

As of today, the temporary public land closure at Moon Rocks due to wildfire, issued on August 11, has been lifted for the North Reno Recreation Area Moon Rocks. All recreationists in this area are welcome to return and enjoy the space, but please remember to use only existing trails for your activities.

The North Reno Recreation Area encompasses the Dogskin Mountains, portions of Hungry Valley, and the popular Moon Rocks play area. Altogether, this covers approximately 19,050 acres of public lands, offering plenty of room for exploration and recreation.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to responsible land use. Enjoy your time out there, and please help us keep these public lands safe and accessible for all.

Moon Rocks is closed at this time due to fire. That means the W.E.ROCK Events competition had to find a new venue on short notice. Fortunately the folks at Farmy’s Off Road Park in Yerington stepped up to help! This is an entirely new venue so we are excited to see the courses WE Rock comes up with, and temps are forecasted to cool down this weekend, making it a great event whether you are competing or spectating.

This weekend western series finals will now be held at Farmy Inc. in Yerington NV come check out the rock and the action this weekend now 10am Saturday and 9 am Sunday!

If you were at the Reno Rodeo this past week you likely saw the Dolan Auto Group. They have been a longtime supporter of not only the rodeo but lots of other local Reno events, including our annual Friends of Moon Rocks cleanup. What we love about Dolan is that they not only write us a check to cover expenses, they show up at the event, roll up their sleeves and pick up trash, and provide prizes for our raffle. Please keep this in mind the next time you are looking to purchase a vehicle and support the businesses that support our community.

The biggest thing we noticed at this year's cleanup? The number of kids! We love to see the next generation performing public service and ensuring that their public lands are clean and safe for when they are old enough to get behind the handlebars or steering wheel of their first OHV.

And big thanks to Mike and Bowie Henderson for coming out and capturing these great images from the event.
