Baggin’ for Apples is around the corner! Bring the whole family because volunteers of every age are welcome, from the teenager who will pretend not to be having fun to the littlest helpers who will mostly supervise 🎃

Costumes are encouraged (vampires, mummies, and slightly confused zombies are all welcome). Along with the volunteering, we’ll have Halloween games, crafts, face painting, and a light dinner.

As families affected by the Hawk Fire began navigating evacuation, recovery, food loss, and uncertainty, support came from pretty much every direction. Businesses, foundations, community partners, and individual donors stepped forward to help ensure neighbors had access to food and resources when they were needed most.

We're extremely grateful to everyone who supported our fire response and recovery efforts. It helped us respond and adapt as quickly as possible, and allowed us to continue standing alongside the families and communities in the weeks that followed. We want to give a special thanks to:

You're not alone if you've felt the past few months FLYING by. But before all of us welcome October and some of us continue to side-eye the ever-expanding and completely unwarranted list of pumpkin spice products (pumpkin spice floor cleaner…?), we wanted to take a moment to recognize Hunger Action Day! 🧡

These photos feature just a small handful of the people behind the work that happens every day at the Food Bank. The folx answering calls, coordinating distributions, building partnerships, supporting volunteers, moving food, solving problems, and doing the thousand other things that don't always make it into a photo.

We're also tremendously lucky to do this work alongside so many people who care deeply about our communities. To our volunteers who give their time, our donors who help turn plans into action, our partners who show up every day for neighbors, and everyone who supports this mission: THANK YOU! It's an honor to serve this region with you.

A year ago, our community, along with the rest of the country, was navigating a lot of uncertainty. When SNAP benefits were paused during the federal shutdown, families found themselves searching for answers and support.

In response, we expanded distributions, worked closely with our partners, sourced additional food, and did everything we could to make sure people knew where to turn. Today, we're grateful to share that the Food Bank has been selected as the 2026 Quality of Life Award recipient for Health & Wellness by Truckee Meadows Tomorrow.

What stands out most when we look back is how much of our community stepped up. Partners opened their doors, volunteers gave their time, donors helped us move quickly, and organizations across our region reached out and asked what they could do to help.

This recognition reflects a community effort, from start to finish. We're grateful to Truckee Meadows Tomorrow and thankful to everyone who helped make that response possible!

When most people think about SNAP, they picture groceries. What they don't always see is everything connected to those groceries.

The thing we love the most about Hunger Action Month is that there isn't one "right" way to participate. Maybe you volunteer. Maybe you visit a local participating business. Maybe you wear orange, bring a friend to a Food Bank tour, or share something you've learned about hunger with someone else… It all counts!

It's a time to raise awareness about hunger and bring people together around one shared goal: helping our neighbors have access to the nutritious food they need.

Throughout the month, there are plenty of ways to get involved:
🍴 Join us for lunch and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Food Bank on September 17. We'll share what our work looks like right now and give you a closer look at how food moves through our warehouse and into the communities we serve.
🍨 Support Northern Nevada Bites Back. Local businesses are helping customers take action against hunger, including Yogurt Beach, Batch Cupcakery, Great Basin Brewing Company, Liberty Food & W**e Exchange, and Overland Restaurant & Pub. We'll keep updating the list as we get more participating businesses!
🟠 Keep an eye out for orange around the community, including at Circus Circus Reno from September 1-9 and the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa fountain on Hunger Action Day, September 29.
