New Paper Alert! Published in the Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network by Jeremy McGuire et al., the randomized pilot study "Feasibility and Efficacy of Reiki Versus Massage for Cancer-Related Fatigue in Patients With Breast and Prostate Cancer Receiving Hormone Therapy" evaluated the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of Reiki compared with massage therapy for reducing cancer-related fatigue in 87 patients with breast cancer receiving aromatase inhibitors or prostate cancer receiving androgen deprivation therapy. Participants were assigned to two massage sessions, two Reiki sessions, or four Reiki sessions. All three interventions significantly reduced fatigue, with improvements sustained at the 10-week follow-up; however, Reiki produced larger within-group effect sizes than massage, particularly the four-session Reiki regimen, which showed the greatest reductions in overall fatigue, worst fatigue, and fatigue-related interference with daily life. Although differences between the treatment groups were not statistically significant, the findings suggested a possible dose-response effect, with greater benefits from four Reiki sessions. The authors concluded that both Reiki and massage are safe and feasible approaches for managing cancer-related fatigue, with Reiki showing particularly promising results that warrant confirmation in larger, adequately powered clinical trials.

New Open Access Paper Alert: Published in Integrative Cancer Therapies by CRR President Natalie Leigh Dyer et al. the study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of Reiki therapy for managing moderate to severe cancer-related symptoms among cancer survivors. The intervention involved six 30-45-minute Reiki sessions within 6-8 weeks, with participants completing the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS) and Quality of Life (PROMIS-29) measures before and after the sessions. The study found that participants experienced numerical improvements in all symptom scores after Reiki, indicating the therapy's potential effectiveness and acceptability. The study's findings will inform future, larger-scale trials and contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting integrative therapies in oncology care.

The preliminary program has just been released. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 has launched a research fellowship! To reflect the broad and interdisciplinary nature of energy healing research, they have renamed the program the 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.

There are four grants of up to $50,000 each. The fellowship also maintains its core pillars: pairing each fellow with a senior mentor aligned with their research topic and integrating them into their growing research community.

A few additional key details:
- Project period of 12 to 18 months
- Open to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty within five years of appointment, as well as researchers with up to five cumulative years as an independent investigator

A 2025 study 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘙𝘦𝘪𝘬𝘪 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘺 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘓𝘦𝘶𝘬𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘢 𝘉𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 5-7 𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘗𝘢𝘪𝘯, 𝘝𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘘𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦: 𝘈 𝘙𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘺 by Demir et al. examined the effect of Reiki performed on 66 children with leukemia between the ages of 5–7 years on pain, vital signs, oxygen saturation, and quality of life. The research was a double-blind, pre-test-post-test randomized controlled experimental study. The data were collected using Information Form, Wong-Baker FACES Pain Scale (W-BPS), Vital Signs Follow-up Form, and The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) 3.0 Cancer Module.

Reiki was performed to the Reiki group for 20–30 minutes once per day, for 3 consecutive days and pseudo-Reiki was applied to the pseudo-Reiki group by an independent nurse during the same period. Reiki did not affect the vital signs of the children but was effective in reducing pain and increasing the quality of life compared with the pseudo-Reiki and control groups.

Noting the study's rigorous design and its evidence-based rationale for incorporating Reiki treatments more broadly into cancer care practices, CRR reviewers scored this paper, published in the 𝘌𝘶𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘖𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 𝘕𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨, highly (Very Good/Excellent) using the CRR Touchstone evaluation process.
