Reminder: The City of Southfield Movember Men’s Health Event and Vaccine Clinic is tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27!

The event is open to everyone who needs vaccines or would like health information and resources for themselves or a loved one. Stop by to meet our participating health and wellness vendors.

Thank you to the Southfield City Council for passing a kratom ordinance and taking a step toward protecting the health and safety of our community.

💙💚 **FITNESS FOR RECOVERY – BUILDING STRENGTH, HEALTH & HOPE!** 💪❤️

**HELP US BUILD STRONGER LIVES THROUGH FITNESS AND RECOVERY!**

The **Southfield Substance Prevention & Education Coalition (SSPEC)** is seeking donations of **NEW or GENTLY USED GYM EQUIPMENT** to help create fitness and wellness spaces at **Wellspring Recovery Apartments and John Grace Arms** in Southfield!

🏠 **Wellspring Recovery Apartments** will provide recovery-focused housing with wraparound supportive services to help individuals recovering from substance use disorders achieve long-term recovery, stability, improved health, and independence.

🏡 **John Grace Arms** will provide affordable supportive housing, helping individuals and families build stability, improve their quality of life, and achieve greater self-sufficiency.

💪 **WHY FITNESS MATTERS IN RECOVERY**

Recovery is more than overcoming substance use. It is about rebuilding lives, developing healthy habits, managing stress, strengthening mental and physical health, and creating a positive future.

**🏋️ WE NEED YOUR HELP!**

We are accepting donations of:

✅ Treadmills and exercise bikes
✅ Elliptical machines
✅ Weight benches and strength-training equipment
✅ Dumbbells and free weights
✅ Resistance bands and yoga mats
✅ Medicine balls and fitness accessories

We Remember September 11, 2001

Today, SSPEC honors the lives lost, the families forever changed, the courageous first responders, and all who answered the call to serve.

May we carry forward the unity, compassion, courage, and kindness that brought our nation together during its darkest hours.

We will never forget. ❤️🤍💙

Join us September 18–21, 2026, for the United Nations International Day of Peace celebration, “Together in Peace,” under the 2026 theme, “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” International Day of Peace is a worldwide observance that recognizes peace as more than the absence of conflict—it is a shared commitment to respect, compassion, justice, understanding and nonviolence. This four-day community celebration will bring together students, residents, faith leaders and local partners through meaningful activities that encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to build peace in their homes, schools, neighborhoods and across the world.

Events begin Friday, September 18, with school and youth visits and lunch with students; continue Saturday, September 19, with community visits and Peace Pole outreach; and include an Interfaith Worship Service at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, followed by a reception and Peace Pole dedications at Hope United Methodist Church. The celebration concludes Monday, September 21, with a Peace Conference at 11:00 a.m. at Wayne State University in Detroit, featuring a World Peace Flag Ceremony, Peace Pole rededication and a worldwide moment of silence. 🎉 What a night at Southfield’s POP Party on the Promenade!

More than 600 people came out to celebrate with Southfield friends and families. SSPEC enjoyed talking with children and parents about the risks of smoking and va**ng.

We also asked parents and guardians one important question: “Have you talked with your child about smoking and va**ng—and what grade were they in when you started the conversation?”

Stay tuned for the survey results—they may surprise you!

The information we distributed provides parents and guardians with helpful tips for starting conversations about ni****ne and va**ng. It is never too early to talk—and one conversation can make a difference.

🎶 Gazebo Concert Series on the Front Lawn!

More than 500 people braved the threat of rain to enjoy a wonderful evening of music and community—and SSPEC was there because rain or shine, we show up!

We were happy to share information about our coalition, prevention efforts, and community resources with everyone who attended. We truly appreciate everyone who stopped by our table and donated to support our cause.

A special thank-you to everyone who picked up a phone lanyard, followed us on social media, and shared our prevention messages. Your support helps us reach even more families throughout our community!
