Parents: What You Need to Know About Kratom and Teens

Kratom is becoming more common in v**e shops, smoke shops, gas stations, and online stores. While it is often marketed as a "natural" product, kratom can have powerful effects on the brain and body.

⚠️ For youth and teens, kratom use may lead to:
• Difficulty concentrating
• Mood changes and irritability
• Nausea and dizziness
• Increased heart rate
• Dependence and withdrawal symptoms
• Risky decision-making and substance use

Kratom products come in capsules, powders, gummies, teas, and drinks, making them easy to mistake for harmless supplements.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents can help by:
✔️ Talking openly about substance use
✔️ Knowing what products are being sold locally
✔️ Monitoring supplements and products brought into the home
✔️ Encouraging healthy ways to manage stress and anxiety

Today is expected to be hot and humid in Southfield. High temperatures combined with humidity can increase the risk of heat-related illness.

💧 Stay Hydrated
Drink water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.

🌳 Stay Cool
Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas.

👕 Dress for the Heat
Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.

👶👵 Check on Others
Keep an eye on children, older adults, and those with medical conditions.

🚗 Never Leave Children or Pets in a Vehicle
Temperatures inside a parked car can become dangerous within minutes.

⚠️ Know the Signs of Heat Illness
Watch for dizziness, headache, nausea, excessive sweating, or confusion. Seek medical attention if symptoms become severe.

Incentives2Quit is a fully remote, reward-based program designed to support pregnant individuals who want to quit smoking ci******es. Participants receive structured support (e.g., engaging with our smartphone app, Bluetooth enabled breath testing, coaching, and progress tracking ) throughout pregnancy and postpartum, and they can earn over $1,000 in incentives over the nine-month program for meeting cessation goals.
