The mission of the South Kingstown Land Trust is to protect and steward the natural resources, open spaces and cultural landscapes for the benefit of our communities now and forever. SKLT is a membership organization and depends on the generosity of its members to support our operations. Please consider becoming a member and join over 650 other individuals and families who support SKLT. South Kingstown Land Trust’s land protection projects range from relatively simple donations of conservation easements on undeveloped land to complex public-private partnerships to acquire land for wildlife habitat preservation, forest stand improvements, productive use of farmland, and recreation.

Shoutout to the South Kingstown Police Department, DEM HazMat, and NBW Environmental Services for their quick clean up and hard work. The site was remediated and fully restored in less than 24 hours.

On August 9, SKLT welcomed 300 guests to our Woodcock Campus at Weeden Farm for the Great Outdoors Celebration & Auction!

Our annual fundraiser is a celebration of the open spaces that make South Kingstown so special. We are so grateful to our 130+ sponsors, hardworking volunteers, the amazing organizations that donated auction items, our intrepid auctioneer Bob Ward, and every single person who joined us.

This year has truly been one for the books. Open space makes all the difference, and so do you.

⚠️ Trail Safety Alert ⚠️

Please be aware of recent reports of an aggressive raccoon in the vicinity of Biscuit City Preserve.

If you’re visiting the area, keep your dog leashed, stay alert, and give wildlife plenty of space. RI DEM and the South Kingstown Police Department have been notified and are working to locate the raccoon.

FRIENDLY REMINDER! If you’re planning a visit to Yawgoo Trail, please help us protect this special place by following the posted trail rules.

🚗 Parking is available only in the designated parking lot at 236 Barbers Pond Road, West Kingston, RI 02892. To respect our neighbors and allow vehicles to pass safely, please do not park along the side of the road.

Please also remember that public access to the shoreline is not permitted.

We’ve loved seeing so many footprints on the newly reopened trail and hope you’ve been enjoying these beautiful summer days out in the forest!

Last Sunday, SKLT held our Annual Members Meeting at The Barn. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Together, we reflected on all that SKLT has accomplished this year, including the reopening of the Yawgoo Pond Trail after six years of restoration work. We also enjoyed an inspiring presentation from filmmaker and storyteller Tomas Koeck about his new series, Ocean State: Rhode Island’s Wild Coast. Second episode out NOW! Thanks, Tomas.

Here’s to another year of protecting open spaces, exploring the outdoors, and connecting with the natural world we all love.

Last Friday, SKLT explored Crawley Preserve on a guided hike, and what a journey it was! Even along just 2 miles of trail, there was so much to discover: from the historic granitic gneiss quarry to blooming mountain laurel, glacial erratics, and discussions about beech leaf disease and the impacts of the spongy moth.

Crawley Preserve is a hidden gem and well worth a visit. If you’re feeling inspired to hit the trails this weekend, be sure to check out the newly reopened Yawgoo Trail as well!
