January 18, 2026 The City Remnant honored Connect to be the Change as a Hidden Hero in our community. Takisha Jacobs accepted the honor for both her and Co-Founder Loria Perez. The loss of Takisha has sadden our hearts yet encouraged our nonprofit to continue to honor social justice warrior Takisha by carrying on her fight for PEACE and UNITY!

Today and forever, we honor her legacy and will show the effort at the 2027 Sunday Supper. We love you Takisha!

The 574 Peace Walk is a community-centered event bringing people together to celebrate unity, connection, and the spirit of South Bend.

On May 22, 2026, the City of South Bend will celebrate the anniversary of its incorporation in 1865. In honor of this historic moment, Mentoring Moments, LLC, A More Perfect Union, and The City Remnant (501c3) are hosting the 574 Peace Walk at Howard Park.

This event is more than a walk. It is a living tribute to the spirit that shaped South Bend after the Civil War — a city that welcomed formerly enslaved Black families, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, tradesmen, builders, merchants, and farmers to prosper together at the bend of the river.

With 574 seats available for a light meal at 5PM, and meaningful conversation, this gathering creates space for team building, family engagement, and authentic dialogue.

Attendees can enjoy a PEACE WALK through the park, celebrate South Bend’s birthday, and experience an afternoon filled with lawn games, food trucks, music, a live DJ, guest speakers, and local vendors.
