Excellence in Construction Spotlight:
Brown & Brown General Contractors received an Excellence in Construction Award in the Interior category for their work on The Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Indiana University South Bend. This included the demolition of existing interiors and a comprehensive remodel. The project represents the evolving needs of university students, replacing the former campus bookstore with a dynamic hub for collaboration, creativity, and entrpreneurship.

Congratulations to the University of Notre Dame!

McCourtney Hall East is the 27th building at the University of Notre Dame to receive LEED certification and the first to achieve Platinum status.

Platinum is the U.S. Green Building Council's highest level of achievement for sustainable construction, but only 10% of the projects that apply achieve this honor. The state of Indiana has not had a Platinum-certified project in 3 years.

One notable "green" feature is the advanced heat recovery system used to capture waste heat in order to pre-cool or pre-heat the air for scientific research labs. SMACNA member D.A. Dodd, LLC handled all of the mechanicals on this project, including this system, and earned an Excellence in Construction Award for their role in the project.

Congratulations to Michiana Builders Association member R&R Excavating on their “Operational Excellence” Award from the University of Notre Dame! This award was given as part of the University’s Third Annual Sustainability Celebration and recognizes R&R’s contribution across several projects that have aided in reducing carbon emissions at Notre Dame by 48% since 2005, including the Southeast Campus Geothermal Plant.
