The union construction industry works hard to build our region's most important landmarks -- No short cuts. No excuses. We celebrated the dedication and expertise of these contractors and workers with our first Construction Night at the Ballpark earlier this month!

This week, we are celebrating the men and women who have helped build our community -- literally! It's National Construction Appreciation week and we are fortunate and proud to have a thriving and hard-working union construction industry right here in Michiana. not just our regional landmarks but the schools, churches, and municipal buildings we use every day.

Excellence in Construction Spotlight:

It's move-in week at the University of Notre Dame so what better time to highlight the award-winning masonry work on Notre Dame Circle by Ziolkowski Construction! The circle drive at the north end of Notre Dame Avenue has welcomed students and visitors alike for decades. This new campus landmark was designed to build on that and commemorate 50 years of undergraduate women's enrollment at Notre Dame. Ziolkowski installed concrete foundations, masonry, limestone, and granite as well as both brick pavers and veneers -- all while keeping the Circle open during construction to keep campus life moving.

Excellence in Construction Spotlight:

We are proud to recognize Midland Engineering Co. in the Roofing category for a truly massive project. The Midland team completed a reroof for regional corrugated sheet manufacturer Five Star Sheets that required over 230,000-square-feet of TPO membrane, 1,000 feet of new gutter and 1,000 feet of metal edge. The project also included a new fall protection system as well as a snow retention system for the building.

Excellence in Construction Spotlight:

Detailed coordination and disciplined project management by Larson-Danielson Construction were key to the successful completion of the Raclin Murphy Encore Center in Downtown South Bend. The $16 Million addition to the Morris Performing Arts Center integrated modern systems and additional structural components while preserving the 103-year-old theatre's architectural integrity and allowing operations to continue as usual. This addition will allow residents and visitors of Downtown South Bend to continue to enjoy the iconic theater for decades to come.
