Strong Public Schools for South Bend

Every time a new charter school opens, taxpayer money is diverted from a neighborhood public school to fund the charter school. Instead of opening so many new charter schools, we should invest the money in our neighborhood public schools, reduce the teacher-student ratio and restore funding for classes like art, music, PE, and advanced placement classes.

There are many, proven ways to improve schools, such as reducing class sizes so that teachers can provide more one-on-one attention, offering a well-rounded curriculum, and increasing parental involvement. That’s how taxpayer funds should be spent.

We have a responsibility to provide great public schools for every student in South Bend. Improving public schools requires more investment, not less. Our public tax dollars should only be used for traditional, community-based public schools.
