Caring for creation extends beyond environmental protection to justice and equity. Pope Francis emphasizes that environmental care must integrate social justice, addressing both the "cry of the earth and the cry of the poor"

Exploiting nature solely for profit leads to inequality and harm, whereas stewardship promotes harmony, justice, and peace. Christians are called to act responsibly, ensuring that natural resources are used sustainably and that ecosystems are preserved for future generations
Here are some practical actions -

Sustainable living: Reducing waste, conserving energy, and choosing environmentally friendly products

Community engagement: Participating in community gardens, local cleanups, or food-sharing initiatives to support both people and the environment

Worship and education: Integrating creation care into prayers, Bible studies, and worship services, such as Earth Day liturgies or intergenerational resources .

Nuns Against Gun Violence is a coalition of Catholic Sisters and their allies that affirms the value of human life through prayer, education, and advocacy for common sense, evidence-based gun violence prevention.

We as Medical MIssionaries of Mary are part of this coalition here in the United States.

One year ago, we mourned the passing of Pope Francis with heavy hearts. Today, we remember with gratitude the profound witness of his life and leadership. His humility, compassion, and unwavering commitment to those on the margins continue to inspire us.

He called us to listen deeply, to act courageously in the face of injustice, and to be a church that is welcoming, inclusive, and attentive to the suffering of the world. His vision of a synodal church — rooted in collaboration, discernment, and the inclusion of all voices — remains a guiding light.

As we mark this anniversary, we give thanks for his enduring legacy: a global ministry of mercy, a tireless pursuit of justice, and a faith lived with authenticity and love. May we honor his memory by continuing the work to which he so faithfully dedicated his life.

We support the LCWR and are ever so grateful that we, despite our membership size here in the US. are members of the LCWR.

The Leadership Conference of Women Religious expresses its strong support for Pope Leo as he continues to speak with clarity and conviction as a moral voice in our world. At a time when such witness is often met with resistance or opposition, we are deeply inspired by his courage in proclaiming the dignity of every human life and the enduring values of the Gospel.

We recognize the importance of voices that call the global community to greater justice, compassion, and accountability — especially in moments of tension and public disagreement. Pope Leo’s willingness to speak publicly, even when it is difficult, reflects a steadfast commitment to truth and to the care of those who are most vulnerable.

As women religious, we remain committed to defending life in all its fullness and to advancing a vision of human dignity that embraces the poor, the marginalized, and those most at risk. We are grateful for the leadership of Pope Leo that challenges all of us to live more deeply into these Gospel values.

Our recent private audience at the Vatican on March 26 provided a meaningful opportunity to share with Pope Leo our mutual hopes for a world marked by justice, peace, and compassionate care. That encounter deepened our appreciation for his pastoral leadership and strengthens our resolve to stand in solidarity with his efforts.

We, MMM Sisters and AMMM's in the Area of the America's send our sincere condolences to our sisters from Nigeria and the sisters and AMMM's in our MMM West Africa Area on the death of our Sr Dumka Michael.

May your memories of this gifted MMM help you through the difficult days ahead. We send to each of you strength and love and assure you of our prayerful support.

Today, we are sad to communicate the death of one of our Sisters in Nigeria.

Sr. Dumka Michael, MMM, was born in 1974 in Zaakpon, near Port Harcourt in Nigeria. She had her primary and secondary education locally and then went to university to study commerce. She left after two years, taking some time to discern her future before finally joining MMM in 1996.

After her period of initial formation in Nigeria, she went to Kenya and studied commerce and Business Administration at the Catholic University of East Africa (C.U.E.A.).

Her first assignment in East Africa was to Malawi and she was the Administrator in Chipini Health Centre. This was followed by a request from Uganda for her services in Makondo and later to Arusha in Tanzania. She was popular as an Administrator and well respected.

In 2010, after her Final Profession of Vows, she received her master’s degree in strategic management from the University of Derby in England before returning to Nigeria.

In Nigeria, she was the Hospital Administrator at St. Mary’s Hospital, Eleta, Ibadan, for the next eight years before her final assignment to the MMM community in Abuja, where she became involved in works of social justice and counter human trafficking.

Sr. Dumka was a bright, cheerful woman and always looked on the positive side of life.

She became ill in 2025 and although she was under treatment, her health deteriorated.

She died on April 8th in hospital in Abuja. May she rest in peace.
