Yesterday’s Wednesday Market started with sunshine and ended with umbrellas because Alaska.

Our crew didn’t let a little rain stop the fun! Good food, great friends, big laughs and one tiny market pup who clearly stole the show.

Now there’s only ONE Wednesday Market left this summer! Grab your raincoat or sunglasses, probably both and come join the fun!

Community living was never supposed to mean families doing everything alone.

As the country moved away from institutions, people with disabilities were supposed to get the support they needed to live in their communities. But respite care, direct support workers, behavioral services, and other help can still be hard to find. Now, some of the support families do have is at risk.

We know from families and our own research what happens when services aren’t there. When services became harder to find, 81% of family caregivers told us they provided more support themselves. More than half reported very high stress, and half said caregiving put pressure on their finances.

A new Washington Post story follows Annie Morgan and her daughter Ava, who has Angelman syndrome. It offers a rare glimpse into what one family’s daily life can look like when the support they need falls short.

Families of people with disabilities already spend too much time piecing together services and filling gaps in a system that doesn’t provide enough support. They need more help to make community living work, not less.

Pretty powerful way to spend the day.

Kaci with Reentry and myself representing IPS had the opportunity to represent Frontier Community Services at the Wildwood Resource Fair today, alongside so many other organizations working toward the same thing making sure people know there are resources, opportunities, and support waiting on the other side of those gates.

Thank you, Freedom House Ministry, for the work you continue to do and for letting us be a small part of it.

We joined 20 other organizations today for a “Resource fair” inside the prison! Over 90 inmates visited the booths to help take the next step in not coming back through those gates! 🙏🏻 so many guys came up and thanked us for the Christmas bags we do every year, and the Christmas caroling, or they’ve heard about us and want to apply or they want to donate wood work crafts to our upcoming fundraiser 🙌
So thankful what Freedom House ministry has become over the years! A beacon of HOPE inside these walls 💙

LOOK AT THIS WHOLE DAMN CREW!

Frontier Community Services is headed to the 2026 Improving Lives Conferenceand we are not just attending!

Nikki Marcano, Bexx Geleide, Michael Washington, Alicia Clements, and Brenda Elizalde will all be there as featured speakers, presenting:

“Nothing About Us Without Us: Lived Experience and Employment in Action.”

This is what the work is supposed to look like not speaking for people or telling their stories for them, but making room for people with lived experience to take the microphone, speak their truth, and help shape the systems that affect their lives.

We could not be prouder of this crew. They have something real to say, and Alaska needs to hear it.

🌴✨ Savannah, Georgia — Leadership, Learning & a Little Adventure! ✨🌴

What an incredible trip to Savannah, Georgia for the NAQ Conference!

Michelle and Kyle had the privilege of presenting on something that has had a profound impact on both of their lives: what happens when you are invited to the leadership table.

Being given a seat at that table transformed not only their own lives and the way they see themselves as leaders, but it also influenced our organization, our community, and the way they think about leadership itself. They shared their experiences, the lessons they've learned, and the importance of creating space for people with different experiences and perspectives to have a voice in the decisions that shape our work.

One of the best parts of conferences like this is realizing that the work we are doing in Alaska is part of something much bigger. They had the opportunity to connect with leaders and professionals from across the country, share ideas, learn from one another, and come home inspired to keep pushing forward.

And, of course, they couldn’t go all the way to Savannah without enjoying a little adventure! They explored the beautiful and historic buildings throughout the city, watched dolphins swimming in the river 🐬, connected over some amazing food, and soaked up as much of Savannah as they could.

Michelle and Kyle are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent their work, share their story, and learn alongside so many incredible people.

Sometimes being invited to the table changes you. Sometimes it changes the table. And sometimes, it changes both. ❤️

Nothing beats fresh air, a little patience, and the excitement of finally feeling that tug on the line. What a great catch and an even better memory made along the way!

🌲 Partnership in Action! 🌲

Yesterday’s Activities Club and TRAILS Committee partnership meeting was a wonderful success! We had an amazing turnout and loved seeing everyone connecting, participating, and having fun together. Joe Lunn also joined us but had to leave before the photos so he deserves a shoutout too!

A highlight of the afternoon was Mr. McIntosh’s introduction to karate and self-defense. He has offered to host an adaptive group class that can be done standing, sitting in a chair, or even on the floor making it accessible to people with a wide range of abilities.

We need at least five participants to schedule the class! If you or someone you support is interested, please speak with your advocate or contact Renie at the front office.

We also started dreaming up activities for next summer but we’ll save those announcements for another day. 👀

These are the moments that create friendships, build confidence, and strengthen our community. Thank you to everyone who made this partnership such a success!
