Congratulations to the 44 participants of the fifth annual Tsalteshi Backyard Ultra, June 5-6 in Soldotna! Previous champ Carrie Setian notched another win this year, and set a course record of 21 loops — 87.507 miles! Thanks to race director Doug Hogue and all the volunteers for making this event happen. Special thanks to Amy Hogue and Larissa Arbelovsky for the photos. We'll see you next year — June 4, 2027!

We got another report of a cow moose on upper Bear loop being aggressive. She charged a couple hikers yesterday near the S turn on the Bear downhill. She's got brand-new twins, born two days ago. Please avoid upper Bear for the next few days and give her and the new kids some space.

Thanks to our singletrack volunteers today! All Slikok STX trails are now open and riding great… EXCEPT Uncle Ben is still closed. It wouldn’t be Slikok without at least one slow-drying spot o’ slop.

Aggressive mama moose on upper Bear today. Appears to have just given birth. Please avoid Bear and give her and the kids some space!

Volunteers needed — Sprockets sweeps.

Our Sprockets youth bike program meets at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in June. We had coach training Sunday and we're ready to have a fun and SAFE season. That's where you come in! Anyone using the trails on Tuesdays and Thursdays in June, please let us know if you see any potential hazards. Please text our youth programs coordinator, Alicia, at 907-252-4788 if you see anything to let our coaches know about — moose or other wildlife, downed trees, etc.

Volunteers needed June 6:
Help us get our singletrack trails ready for the season!

Brian needs a hand getting the Slikok singletrack trails prepped to open for the season. Meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at Mile 99. If coming from Soldotna, drive past the Slikok Multi-Use Trails parking lot entrance. At the top of the hill, look for a pull-in on the right near the highway Mile 99 marker. We'll have the gate open. Brian will have tools, just bring yourself and work gloves. If we get enough done, we'll open the Slikok STX trails after the work session.

All Skyview-side singletrack trails are now open for the season!

**5 p.m. May 26 update** Fish and Game checked the area and removed a moose calf that had a birth defect and wasn't going to survive. The cow will hopefully move along soon. We'll keep the first section of Wolf closed for now. Please be especially cautious of moose everywhere on the trails while calves are young, but especially near the area marked on the map.

**10 a.m. May 26**
We just got a report that a cow moose with a fresh calf attacked a trail user on Wolf near Skyview. Last seen on Wolf past the Tsalteshi Trails sign before the Moose intersection. We're closing that section of trails for the next few days to give her a chance to settle down. Keep an eye out on the trails! Please keep dogs on a leash and keep your headphone off so you can be better aware of your surroundings. New calves are here!
