The Anchorage Assembly passed this sweeping update to the municipal building code (Title 23) on April 14, 2026, and it formally went into effect on May 18, 2026. If you are building inside the Municipality of Anchorage, you can immediately utilize the new 1,200 sq. ft. ADU/duplex allowance without strict fire separations, use the single-stair egress rules, and take advantage of the doubled permit exemption threshold ($10,000) for minor residential work.
