Together, we can boost Snohomish schools and help ensure a strong, healthy future for our children. It was by serendipity

that our two founding members, Marian Berge and Mal Harding, each just having returned from separate conferences, decided to join the buzz around school foundations. They recognized the long tradition of Snohomish support for its schools, and realized that creating a foundation was natural undertaking for this community. Since then, SEF’s efforts to broaden educational opportunities for students in the Snohomish School District have flourished.

Welcome back, Snohomish students! 📚✏️

A new school year means new classrooms, new friendships, new challenges, and so many opportunities to learn and grow.

To every student walking through the doors of a Snohomish School District school this week, we hope you begin the year feeling excited, supported, and ready for everything ahead. And to the teachers, staff, administrators, families, and community members who help make each school year possible, thank you for all you do.

At the Snohomish Education Foundation, we’re proud to support students and educators throughout the year through classroom grants, scholarships, academic enrichment, essential needs, and programs that create opportunities beyond the traditional classroom.

Teachers, start thinking about those big ideas. 🍎💡

The next Snohomish Education Foundation Classroom Grant cycle is coming this October, and now is the perfect time to start thinking about an idea you’d love to bring to life for your students.

Last school year, SEF awarded a record $103,737 in Classroom and Essential Needs Grants, helping fund 126 projects across the Snohomish School District.

Those grants helped support everything from hands-on STEM and literacy initiatives to experiential learning, outdoor education, student wellness, classroom innovation, and career and trades exploration.

Behind every grant is an educator who saw an opportunity to make learning more engaging, meaningful, accessible, or memorable for their students.

So as you head into a new school year, keep that idea in the back of your mind. The project you’ve been thinking about. The resource that could change how your students learn. The experience you’d love to make possible.

Information for the 2026–27 Classroom Grant cycle will be available in October. Applications are open starting October 1. Stay tuned for more.

We’re so grateful to the Tribune for shining a light on SEF’s Trades Initiative and the students, donors, and community members helping it grow - Tap the link below to read the article in full!

This article shares the story of Gabriel Cortes, whose Trades Initiative grant helped provide the professional tools he needed to begin his barbering apprenticeship, along with the story of Ray Emery, whose generosity and own experience beginning his career as an apprentice have helped give this program momentum.

The Trades Initiative helps Snohomish students and recent graduates with some of the real costs that come with pursuing a skilled trade, from tools and equipment to training and other career-specific needs.

There is so much heart behind this program, and Ray’s story is one we’re especially grateful to see shared.
