Happy Deaf Awareness Week! FCNNTC will be sharing a fact each day this week that we have learned over the past 3 years of getting to know Deaf Older Adults in the Twin Cities. We still have a lot to learn but are committed to improving access to wellness screenings, dementia education, and health promotion programs within the Deaf Community in the Twin Cities.
Today's Fact: >
Minnesota opened the country’s first deaf social club in 1916 - Charles Thompson Hall. Charles Thompson died in 1915. Margaret Thompson decided to honor his legacy by using her inherited wealth to hire Olof Hanson, a well-known architect who was himself deaf, to specially design a clubhouse for Minnesota's deaf community.
FCNNTC is proud to offer Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance classes at Charles Thompson Hall for Deaf Older Adults.

Happy Friday! FCNN has three Whole-Person Wellness Screening Events scheduled this fall that are open to the public and appointments are still available! If you know an older adult that would benefit from having an insightful conversation about their wellness, please check out one of these three events.
October 6 - Aŋpétu Téča Education Center in Roseville
October 27 - Our Lady of Peace Home in Saint Paul
November 17 - Lyngblomsten Community Services in St Paul (ASL Interpreters Available)

These screenings are in partnership with University of Minnesota and Minesota Board on Aging. The appointment will give older adults more information on their body composition, allow them to participate in cognitive, depression, and hearing assessments in a casual and non-clinical environment, discuss their wellbeing and what brings them joy, and set wellness goals ---- all while helping prepare the next generation of nurses. Screenings are free and open to people 60+.
