Adopt-a-Pet is an all-volunteer dog shelter serving Mason County and the surrounding areas that has been in operation for 42 years. We are an energetic team dedicated to saving the lives of unwanted, abandoned, and abused dogs. As a 501(c) 3, non-profit organization, we rely on adoption fees, donations, grants, fundraisers, and estate bequests to continue our good work. It takes a village to save

a dog and we are grateful for the support of the community. Page Rules:

Happy Summer from all of us at Adopt-A-Pet!

Summer is here, bringing sunshine, longer days, and plenty of tail wags! While you’re enjoying the season, don’t forget our shelter dogs who are still waiting for their forever families.

Whether you adopt, foster, volunteer, donate, or simply share our dogs’ stories, you help give them hope for a brighter future.

Remember to keep your pets safe this summer:
🐶 Provide plenty of fresh water
🌳 Offer shade and cool places to rest
🚗 Never leave pets in parked cars
🐾 Walk during the cooler morning or evening hours

From our shelter family to yours, we wish you a safe, happy, and tail-wagging summer! ☀️❤️

Hazel is Dog of the Week!!
HAZEL's Story

Meet HAZEL! She is a 54 #, 4-Year-Old (DOB 11/01/2021), Australian Kelpie / Australian Terrier girl who is a wonderful companion! Her brown, tan, and white coat make a beautiful fashion statement!

***MIXED DOG BREED EXPERIENCE PREFERRED***

Hazel loves to be petted, scratched, and can be somewhat shy at first meeting. She warms up quickly with calm voices, and slow movements. She is loving, sweet, smart, and wants to please. Hazel loaded up nicely, and rode well in the van. She is a great companion, and family dog. We learned from her owner that has great recall, does fine in the home alone, and does not like rain. Because she is active she loves walks, hikes, yard play, fetch, and an outdoorsy family would be her best fit.

Hazel like children, basically ignores them, and lived with a toddler. She is dog social, and did well with the medium sized dogs that allow her to be the alpha. She did live in a home with cats, however did chase with no incidents. A securely fenced yard is required to keep her safe and happy, and we do recommend supervised yard until she is comfortable in her new surroundings.

Meet CHARLIE! An 80 #, 1.5-year-old German Shepherd/Husky mix looking for an active family to call his own. This sweet, smart, and chatty boy is eager to please and loves treats, adventures, car rides, toys, and daily walks.

Charlie is learning leash manners and basic commands and would thrive with a confident leader who will continue his training. He does best with proper introductions to other dogs and especially enjoys female canine companions.

Due to his size and enthusiasm, we recommend a home with dog-savvy children ages 13+.

Could Charlie be your perfect adventure buddy? ❤️

June is National Microchipping Month!

A collar can slip off. A tag can fall off. But a microchip can help bring your pet home!

Microchipping is a simple, safe, and permanent form of identification that greatly increases the chances of a lost pet being reunited with their family. Just remember—your microchip only works if your contact information is up to date!

Take a moment this month to check your pet’s microchip registration and make sure your information is current. It could make all the difference.

Meet HAZEL! A 4-year-old, 54-pound Australian Kelpie/Terrier mix with a beautiful brown, tan, and white coat. She may be shy at first, but quickly warms up and becomes a loving, loyal companion.

Hazel enjoys walks, hikes, fetch, and outdoor adventures (except rain ☔). She rides well in the car, has great recall, and does well when left home alone.

She has lived with children, is dog social, and previously lived with cats. A securely fenced yard is required.

Could Hazel be your new best friend?

Happy Adoption Day, Mia! 🐾❤️

Some adoptions are extra special, and Mia’s is one of them. One of our new volunteers spent time getting to know Mia, fell completely in love, and decided she belonged in their family forever.

There’s nothing better than seeing a shelter dog find her perfect match—especially when that match was right here with us all along. We are so excited for Mia as she begins this new chapter filled with love, adventures, and a place to finally call home.

Happy tails, sweet girl. We’ll miss you, but this is exactly the ending we hoped for.

Meet POTATO! A 1.5-year-old, 55 # German Shepherd/Husky mix searching for his forever family. After a rough start in life, this sweet boy is ready for a fresh beginning.

Shy at first, Potato warms up with patience and kindness. He’s smart, eager to learn, loves trail walks, car rides, chew bones, and spending time with his dog friends.

His ideal home is an active family with a secure fenced yard and children 13+. Due to his strong prey drive, he cannot live with cats, small animals, or chickens.

Could Potato be the missing piece your family has been waiting for? ❤️🐾
