For the last two and a half years (!!!) our board has been working on a project that is very near to our hearts. And quite literally, near to the hearts of everyone that we play with and against.
While our club moto is “Nos Ludere Donec Moriatur” (We Play Until We Die), in no way do we wish to expedite that end product. For those of us that have experienced it, we know how critical every second is when someone is stricken on the field. Seconds can save lives or livelihoods.
In the past we have supplied a limited number of AEDs for a handful of our teams, mostly in the older divisions. However, while the likelihood of cardiac arrest is higher with the older players, we have seen, as recently as last week in the Serie A and Euro Cup in 2021, that it is in no way exclusively correlated to age.
With that in mind we set out to aquire funding to purchase AEDs for EVERY FC77 team, from O30 to 65+. With the intrepid work of our Vice President Jeff Lucas, the knowledge and training of our Linn City manager Marcio Jungerman, the partnership with OASA and the dogged determination of president Sean Ingersoll, today we are happy to announce the delivery of 12 AEDs as well as accompanying First Aid kits.
A HUGE thank you to Mark Holley at the E-B Foundation for facilitating the awarding of the grant that allowed FC77 to acquire these devices as well as to Anne Braghero at the for receiving them on our behalf.
We had an AED and CPR training course for some of our board members and managers last month (where we learned that singing the song Stayin’ Alive in your head will help you to maintain the correct chest compression rhythm!) and plan to continue this educational process. Just know that if you are an FC77 player or playing against an FC77 team, there is an available AED on the field. Talk to your FC77 manager and understand the protocol and location of the AED.
If you would like to take part in future AED/CPR training, please reach out. Also keep an eye on the 107ist website for CPR training courses.
