Who is the Powers Family, you ask?
Fifteen years ago, what started as a small family golf outing organized by the Powers family has grown into the Friends of Foster Kids Charity Golf Outing we know today—an event that now welcomes more than 150 golfers each year in support of foster children throughout Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.
The original organizers were five siblings and relatives of our founder, Theresa Toia, Clara Tommy, Jimmy, Poochie ( Theresa's mother) , and Billy. While these beloved family members have all since passed on, their legacy lives on through the many family members, friends, and community supporters who continue to make this event a success year after year.
One cherished Powers family tradition remains the Grand Door Prize. The special commemorative flasks and gifts honor the original five organizers and their favorite "4 o'clock beverages"—a lighthearted tribute that keeps their memories alive and brings smiles to golfers each year.
Today, we want to recognize the special significance of the Powers family and thank them for their unwavering support, generosity, and dedication. Their commitment has helped make countless Christmases brighter for the foster children we serve.
To the Powers family: thank you for your love, your tradition, and your continued support of Friends of Foster Kids. Your legacy is woven into the fabric of this event, and we are forever grateful.
❤️ From all of us at Friends of Foster Kids, thank you for helping make a difference in the lives of so many children. Macomb County Seniors .of.foster.deca Detroit Athletic Club
