🚨 Sextortion is a rising concern — right here in our area. 🚨

You’ve likely seen Safe Haven out in the community and on social media educating about sextortion, and we’ll continue to talk about it because awareness matters.

A recent Wisconsin Watch article shares how sextortion cases in Wisconsin are increasing and how families are turning grief into action to help protect other children and teens.

Parents and caregivers: one of the most important things you can do is keep open, ongoing conversations with your children about online safety. Make sure they know they can come to you — even if they’re scared, embarrassed, or worried they’ll be in trouble.

💜 Breakfast, Laughter & Important Work 💜

This morning, our full-time and part-time Safe Haven staff gathered at Shawano Café for our bi-monthly All Staff Meeting. It was a wonderful opportunity to step away from our desks, enjoy a delicious breakfast, share some laughs, and spend time together as a team.

While we always appreciate the chance to connect and recharge, we also spent intentional time reviewing the draft version of our upcoming community-wide protocol for the launch of our Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program, anticipated to begin later this year. This important work will help ensure survivors throughout our community receive compassionate, coordinated, and trauma-informed care.

And let's be honest—it felt pretty great to get out of the office and treat ourselves for a morning! ☕🥞💜

💜 Community Connections Matter 💜

Last night, our Family Services Advocate, Lauren, had the opportunity to staff a resource table at the local Diaper Bank event. Pictured with Lauren is Uriah from United Way, a valued community partner whom Safe Haven frequently collaborates with on events, volunteer opportunities, and community problem-solving efforts.

This event was about much more than sharing brochures and resources. Safe Haven was proud to help ensure equal language access by providing an interpreter for Spanish-speaking families attending the event. While translated materials are important, we know that true access means being able to ask questions, share concerns, and connect with services in your language.

Without valuable services like interpreters, many individuals and families may never reach out for the support they need. Last night, connections were made, questions were answered, resources were shared, and most importantly—everyone had the opportunity to be heard.

At Safe Haven, we believe outreach should be accessible, inclusive, and equitable for all members of our community. 💜
