Today Sharon Historical Society happily continued its long tradition of being one of Sharon's many "Porch Fest" hosts. 

And we think our Porch at 16 High St is extra special. Our expansive open air Porch area had plenty of space, seats, sun, shade; and a lawn, (which a 104 year old car chugged up to, parked upon, and thereafter aahoogaahed on request).

Meanwhile while bands "Desperate Measures" then "Back to Back"
fabulously rocked outside...
Inside youngsters of all ages were crafting and creating Sharon history themed artwork.

Sharon History Spotlight:

King Philip’s Rock and King Philip’s Cave are two rock formations accessible to the public by the King Philip’s Rock trail on Mansfield Street. They are named after Wampanoag leader Metacom, known to the colonists as King Philip, who may have used these rock formations to strategize with his men during the devastating King Philip’s War of 1676.

Paul Revere chats with Deborah Samson in 1804, at Cobbs Tavern, in Sharon. As a result of these meetings, he helped her family to eventually get approval, for a pension via letters to Washington DC. And through a special act of Congress her family eventually (posthomusly) receive a lump sum pension payment for her service in the American Revolution.

It is with heavy hearts that the Board of Directors of the Sharon Historical Society shares the sad news of the sudden passing of our Vice President and Board member, Don Williams.

In addition to his many years of dedicated service to the Town of Sharon, Don was a tireless supporter of the Sharon Historical Society and played an invaluable role in its success and day-to-day operations. His commitment, leadership, and enthusiasm have left a lasting impact on our organization and our community. Don had recently been nominated to succeed our current President, Kristin Slater, who has chosen to step down from the position. The election was scheduled to take place at our upcoming Quarterly Meeting on June 21.

In light of this loss, the Board has decided to postpone the annual election announced in Heritage Hunter to allow the Nominating Committee time to review the slate of officers and Board candidates. Members will be notified as soon as a new election date and time have been established. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this difficult time.

The Quarterly Meeting and scheduled presentation will proceed as planned and will be dedicated to Don’s memory in recognition of his extraordinary service to the Society and the Town of Sharon.

It is with deep sadness that we have to make this post today.

The Sharon Historical Society is saddened to share the passing of our Vice President, Don Williams.

Don was a valued leader, dedicated volunteer, and passionate supporter of preserving and sharing Sharon's history. Through his commitment, knowledge, and service, he made a lasting contribution to our organization and community.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Don's family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

Don will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by the Sharon Historical Society.

In addition to the State proclamation of Deborah Samson Day read by Ted Phillips, our Sharon Select Board members produced and read a special Town of Sharon Proclamation to locally also remember and Honor the achievements of our Deborah for her Stedfast Spirit to the cause of American Liberty, which we still discuss now, after 250 years.
