Founded by a group of Seattle theater janitors, SEIU6 became one of the original locals of the Service Employees International Union in 1921. Today SEIU6 represents more than 9,000 janitors, security officers, and allied industries workers in Washington state. SEIU6 members are janitors who clean office buildings in King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Spokane counties and security officers in downtown Se

attle, Bellevue, and greater King County suburbs. SEIU6 also represents stadium workers and barbers in other private sectors within our region. SEIU6 is part of the largest union in the country, Service Employees International Union, which represents over 2 million service workers in North America. SEIU6 is proud to have the most diverse membership and leadership in the Labor Movement, representing a majority BIPOC and largely immigrant workforce.

Our members are some of the 65,000 people evacuated and impacted by the Spokane wildfires. SEIU6 members are here for you and your loved ones. Our members are currently conducting outreach and SEIU6 will be traveling to Spokane to hear from our members impacted by the fires.

The Spokane Convention Center is open as a shelter - parking is free and pets are welcome.

American Red Cross staff and volunteers are available to assist anyone in need of help either in person or by phone: 1-800-733-2763.

Spokane County Fairgrounds is offering space for horses and other large animals, as well as RV parking for those evacuated due to the fire.

The YMCA is opening all their locations Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. for people to utilize their showers.

Private security officers took action across multiple cities because, according to UC Berkeley, 87% of officers work the entire year with little to no time off. It’s time that those who keep us safe have livable wages, better training to de-escalate violence, and time to spend with their families.

SEIU6 is part of a coalition that says NO on I-645. Earlier today, a press conference was held to highlight that this initiative is an attempt by hedge fund multi-millionaire Brian Heywood to cut his own taxes and make almost everyone else in Washington pay more.

Here’s what I-645 will do if it passes in November:

💰Give a tax cut to Heywood and others who make more than a million dollars a year

📈Increase taxes on working families and small businesses

🔴Blow a $13 billion hole in funding for essential services like health care, child care, and K-12 education in Washington

The NO on 645 campaign is a grassroots effort to defeat this measure.

If I-645 passes, our K-12 students will be packed into larger classes. Free school meals for many students will be eliminated. We’ll pay more for health care and child care — if we can afford it at all. And without funding from the Millionaires Tax, we’ll lose the tax cuts that the legislature passed for working families.
