SEIU6 stands in support of two members kidnapped by ICE this weekend. We demand their release from ICE detention.

They are two of the 1,135 immigrants that are detained daily under the Trump regime. We will not stand silently as our members suffer and face dehumanizing conditions at detention centers like the Northwest Detention Center.

ICE acts without impunity and must be abolished.

They are terrorizing immigrants and people of color across the United States. Our membership is mainly comprised of immigrants, descendants of immigrants, and communities of color. ICE agents routinely violate our civil rights when they force their way into homes, vehicles, and workplaces and arrest or detain people regardless of their legal status.

When a group of Washington millionaires discovers a terrible new threat to their fortunes, they decide to fight back. Their plan? Repeal the Millionaires Tax!

They repeat the same strange talking points over and over. They insist they desperately need more money. That they shouldn’t have to pay the same taxes as every other citizen of Washington state. And no matter how ridiculous things get, they just keep shouting, “Repeal the tax!” 

Clearly these millionaires must be…. Dummies!

But why should they be treated any differently? Why should they be allowed to hoard piles of money while the rest of us struggle to make ends meet? Can anyone stop these dummies before their puppet-voices drown out the voices of the people of Washington?

“World-class airport” is a phrase you’ll hear the Port of Seattle throw around like it’s confetti. But who keeps the airport running smooth and safe? It’s the baggage handlers, the cabin cleaners, the wheelchair assistants, the janitors, and so many other working class professionals.

Hollow proclamations and empty gestures from the Port Commission won’t play the bills and they certainly won’t cover medical bills. HEALTHCARE NOW! Airport workers have been asking for 8 years now and SEIU6 wont stop until workers reap the benefits of their labor!

As we celebrate National Latino Heritage Month, we want to celebrate SEIU6 member Milixa Portillo in the latest installment of Belonging in America: Faces of the Labor Movement. Milixa is a strong mujer and a leader at Local 6. Like the thousands of janitors across our region, Milixa plays a crucial role in keeping our buildings clean and running smoothly. More importantly, her Honduran heritage adds vibrancy to makeup of this country. SEIU6 is proud that our local is representative of a global community that calls Washington State home.
