Please sign onto ILWU Local 23’s petition to the Port of Tacoma and demand they block Husky Terminal’s efforts to automate cargo handling and eliminate good union jobs. Port leaders should work for our communities, not against them. Sign here 👉 actionnetwork.org/petitions/husky-ai

Thank you, Senator Sanders, for always speaking up on behalf of workers. Bernie is right: Automation isn’t about efficiency, it’s about breaking unions and workers’ power.

Thank you, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, for fighting to protect the jobs of American workers. Link to the video in the comments.

ILWU Statement on the 60-Day Jones Act Waiver

On behalf of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), we strongly oppose the Trump Administration’s decision to issue a blanket 60-day waiver of the Jones Act.

A blanket Jones Act waiver such as this undermines our national security, weakens military readiness and shifts critical maritime work to foreign vessel operators. During a time of heightened international conflict and uncertainty, opening U.S. waterways to foreign vessels is a dangerous move for the U.S. mariners we represent.

The strength and security of our nation’s maritime industry rely on the Jones Act. The ILWU urges the Administration and Congress to pause this action and work with stakeholders – including labor – to develop responsible, long-term solutions.

Celebrating a 1st of its kind in the nation!

SB 5995 - 2025-26 was signed into law preventing public monies from being used for automation of maritime port jobs. 🙌

MM&P leadership worked with ILWU, Teamsters and other maritime unions to bring this bill across the finish line.

MM&P Secretary-Treasurer J. Lars Turner (left) and MM&P VP Pacific Maritime Region Dan Twohig (right) met with Washington State Governor Bob Furguson earlier this week.
