FOX Sports reached out to Street Soccer Seattle about shooting a spot to run before today's game about street soccer culture in City of Seattle.

We were flattered, AND we knew where to turn. Within a day Tyson (of Les Kick't), Coach G, and SSS program participants filled Judkins Park and played hours of pickup while the Fox Sports crew filmed. Usually these runs are on Friday, but the crew made Wednesday feel a lot like Friday!

Tune in today from 11:30-11:40am (PST) before the game today to see the TV spot!

And a special mention that the CEO of the reigning Egyptian Homeless World Cup champions, Ibrahim, showed up with SSS President Chris Burfeind and Volunteer Coordinator Yoel Ortiz to throw down on the concrete!

USL legend, Craig Tomlinson–who played with the team from 2000-2008–showed up for the youth in a big way last Sunday at RAVE Foundation's Free Day of Soccer Play. For four hours he brought infectious enthusiasm for the game, and he had this to say about our Street Soccer Seattle volunteers, Adam (also a Grassroot Soccer point person) and Nigel:

“They had an amazing attitude. They were so connected with the kids and the game, and made the kids feel like they have a safe space. How they engaged with the kids I think was remarkable.”

What a day it was Sunday at the 1st of 's 52 free play fields: the heavily-used Yesler Terrace Park turf mini-pitch. Over a hundred youth and their parents participated throughout the course of this event--with Seattle Parks and Recreation & Seattle Office of Housing reps in the house.

Street Soccer Seattle volunteers Nigel and Adam (also a point person for Grassroot Soccer) held it down ALL afternoon with the help of USL Sounders legend Craig Tomlinson.

It's been a good week if you've played soccer twice.

GAME REFLECTION: sustainable play/stamina

Although SSS played well for much of the game, the organization and the communication broke down somewhat towards the end of the game, and we passed less as a result. Plenty to work on in practice together this Thursday!

Spirited practice today with a solid takeaway.

PRACTICE FOCUS: 'take the space'
We worked on looking for the split ball (pass between 2 defenders) to get our team into an even better situation than a regular, less-risky pass. Sometimes, however, the split isn’t available, and so there are small passes we can do that setup the split.

LIFE PARALLEL: Often, we need to take what life gives us as we set ourselves up for better opportunities. Sometimes 'taking the space' looks like being patient and making smaller/easier moves while we build towards more significant opportunities.

Busted out the new uniforms at our last game! "Team - Growth - Joy"

PRACTICE FOCUS: 'Adjust Your Play'
In a modified game of walking soccer where players had to walk until they scored their first goal, the winning team was the one where everyone scored.

LIFE PARALLEL: This drill teases out the concept that sometimes a teammate may be struggling or thriving at certain aspects of the game (or life), and if we adjust our own style to support each other, we'll build the type of collective strength that allows the entire group to flourish.
