A belated thank you to the community for your help in making Staff/Educator Appreciation Week earlier this month such a success!

8 gift cards were donated and will be gifted by ASB to some lucky staffers/educators at random... 45 families contributed money and/or goods to help us pull off breakfast, lunch & snacks for 135 staff members, and 7 volunteers donated their time to set-up and host events throughout the week.

We truly appreciate all the ways our BHS family shows up!

Ballard High School serves many students with many needs. David Furman teaches students with intellectual disabilities. His students with intellectual disabilities spend part of their school day working on vocational skills to support them getting a job and living independently.

As part of that program, they operate a coffee shop, Beaver Beans, where students learn to sell coffee cards, collect payment, label and organize materials, pull espresso using a professional espresso machine, ensure quality of their product, and delivery to staff. The more they can learn now, and the more likely they will get a job.

Mr. Furman is looking to expand that program, but he needs our help. With the support of Ms. Chambers, our Librarian, he has put together a DonorsChoose to fund items that will help this program expand and for a limited time there is a 2x match to all donations.

We are looking for one or more volunteers to deliver Weekend Food Bags from the Ballard Food Bank to Ballard High School on Thursday mornings during the 2026–27 school year.

This program has been incredibly impactful for our school community, and we are especially grateful to those who have already volunteered to help make it possible. We truly appreciate your consideration in supporting this effort.

If you're interested, please email Jake Wishart; BHS School Based Integrated Behavioral Health Coordinator for details! [email protected]

Thanks to everyone who came to the PTSA Community Building event on March 31. It was interesting and fun! Always lovely to hear people's responses to questions like: What's one word to describe your day? What superpower do you wish you had? How could we engage more people in our Ballard High community and make it even more welcoming?

We look forward to our next meeting (May 5th) when we will describe our favorite outdoor nature activity as a community building activity. Honorable J. Wesley Saint Clair will join us to share more about Huayruro’s community building work with Ballard High School students, teachers, and staff.

Sending love and gratitude,

Ballard PTSA DEI Committee
