What’s REALLY clogging our pipes? Here are the numbers.

An independent study analyzing 1,745 items captured in municipal sewers revealed:

🧻 52.8% Paper towels
🧻 34.1% Do Not Flush wipes (mostly baby wipes)
🧻 7.2% Feminine hygiene products
🧻 4.9% Trash & misc. (floss, packaging, PPE)
🧻 0.9% Flushable wipes

Less than 1% of items found were flushable wipes.

Over 86% were paper towels and non-flushable wipes.

Always look for the Do Not Flush symbol before you flush!

CA Water Professionals Appreciation Week is here! 💧

This week, we’re celebrating the water professionals who work behind the scenes to keep our communities’ water and wastewater systems running every day.

We’re proud to work alongside great partners across California, including California Association of Sanitation Agencies, Central Contra Costa Sanitary District, Inland Empire Utilities Agency, Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts and Orange County Sanitation District to help promote responsible flushing.

Protecting your home from a plumbing emergency only takes a few simple steps, plus you can make it into a game for kids of all ages.

1️⃣ Spot the Symbol: Have your kids hunt for the Do Not Flush label on baby wipes cleaning wipes and makeup wipes.
2️⃣ Trash Can Check: Make sure every bathroom has an easily accessible trash can next to the toilet. If it’s easy to reach, there’s no excuse for irresponsible flushing!
3️⃣ Only flush the flushable!
