THIS SATURDAY! Community Reading & Feedback Session: Sankofa and Second Chances
When & Where
Date: Saturday, September 26, 2026
Time: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Location: WaNaWari
911 24th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122

About the Event:
Be part of the creative journey! Join local author Reagan Jackson and a talented cast of local young people—directed by Intiman Theatre’s Wesley Frugé—for a live staged reading of Sankofa and Second Chances (working title). Supportedby a grant from 4Culture, Reagan is gathering the local community to help refine this Seattle-based novel. This is a public reading before final edits are locked in. Your voice, thoughts, and feedback will directly help shape the final book.

About the Author: Reagan E. J. Jackson (she/her) is a Seattle-based writer, facilitator, and “book doula.” She is the author of Still True: The Evolution of an Unexpected Journalist (Hinton Publishing 2024), three full-length poetry collections, two children’s books, and over 100 articles. Reagan is continuously plotting ways Black women can recharge, reset, reimagine, and rest, and is currently crafting her debut Young Adult novel.

There is so much good stuff happening today. I hope you support our friends. First is the 4th Anniversary of Arte Noir!

FADE TO BLACK: A Celebration of Black Women on Saturday, September 19, from 1:00–6:00 PM at Midtown Square as we celebrate the past four years and look ahead to what’s next for ARTE NOIR.

Then tonight check out this amazing event at LANGSTON.

The Rahk Dance Theatre (RDT), based in Georgia, is coming to LANGSTON! They are premiering their new show, “Dreamland,” for one night only, next Saturday, September 19th, from 7 to 8:30 pm.

RDT is a dynamic professional dance company that pushes the boundaries of storytelling through movement. “Dreamland” will take us on an inspiring journey through the eyes of a young dancer from the streets of New York City who dreams of joining a major dance company. This exciting production celebrates the power of dreams and the limitless possibilities.

Tickets are $20 ($22.47 after fees) and we have community access tickets available for 5 ($6.56 after fees). Incredibly, young people can witness the show for free with promo code DREAMLAND26

We invite you all to experience “Dreamland” and to circulate this opportunity. Will y’all partner with us and spread the word? The flyer is attached and the event has been shared in Instagram and Facebook.
