Friends of Sawmills FD This page is being updated to promote the support of Sawmills Fire and the Community of Sawmills. Sawmills Fire Department began in 1958.

It began as a volunteer department located in the foothills of NC.

Sawmills Volunteer Fire and Rescue would like to congratulate Landon Hines on his graduation from South Caldwell High School. Firefighter Hines joined SVFR in 2022 as Jr. member and became an active Firefighter in 2025. He plans to attend Western Carolina University in the fall and will major in Emergency Management. He is currently employed by the City of Hickory Fire department as a probationary firefighter trainee.

It's time once again for the Touch-A-Truck Summer Reading Kickoff. Bring the family out the the Lenoir Library, 120 Hospital Avenue, on Saturday, June 6, from 10 am until noon and see trucks of all shapes and sizes and learn more about this year's summer reading program.

Friends of the Library will also be holding a book sale.

On May 31, 2026, the Sawmills Volunteer Fire and Rescue announced the retirement of Fire Chief Rusty Crowe after 27 years of service. Throughout his career, Chief Crowe has faithfully served the citizens of Sawmills from 1999 to 2026 with compassion, leadership, and integrity while leaving a lasting impact on the organization and those he has served with. We are grateful for his years of hard work and dedication to the fire service and wish him well on his future endeavors.
