Episode 1: Eat More Livermush!
What does livermush have to do with Mitford? More than you might think! This old-fashioned North Carolina favorite, made with pig liver, cornmeal, and seasonings, has appeared in Jan's beloved Mitford stories many times, bringing a little Southern flavor and a whole lot of personality!

Remember Russell Jacks? He had quite a fondness for livermush. So did Father Tim, who said at the Main Street Grill, "Livermush straight up…and make it a double!"

Jan even included a special section about this Southern favorite in her Mitford Cookbook & Kitchen Reader. So naturally, we thought livermush deserved its very own collection!

Deadline: Nov. 1 at Midnight

Young photographers, ages 8-22, grab your phone–it’s your turn to tell a story!

We challenge youth in two age groups (8-15 and 16-22) to submit photographs of what Food and Family means to you. If you love taking photos with your smartphone–enter the Candace Freeland Photography of Merit Award contest.

This contest was founded by Jan’s daughter Candace, who was an award-winning photographer. Submit your black-and-white or color entries on our website by midnight tonight. There is no fee to enter, but you must be between 8 and 22, and your photos should address the topic of Food and Family.

Photographers who enter this contest will have a chance to win cash awards and the opportunity to build their portfolio and broaden their network.

It’s Throwback Thursday, and today we're looking back at the Town of Hudson, North Carolina’s Man and Woman of the Year Banquet, where we were honored by being named Hudson’s Organization of the Year. We had a wonderful time celebrating this honor with our staff, volunteers, and other community members.

Join us in sharing a Mitford Moment.

During her recent visit, Kaye of Niceville, Florida, shared that when her son became a pastor, she told him to read the Mitford books to learn how to serve his congregation well. She said it is the best way to learn how to truly be a pastor and should be required reading for anyone in ministry.

Youth and young adults ages 8-22 nationwide are invited to enter our photography contest for a chance to win $4,500 in cash prizes.

The deadline to enter is November 1st, and we can't wait to see the photos submitted! To help youth see the power of an image and inspire the next generation of photographers, Jan’s late daughter, Candace, founded the Candace Freeland Photography of Merit Award.
