History in the making continued.

Pages 4–7 of the original 1983 preservation report dig into one of the Candler Oak’s toughest historical hurdles: a thick, 3-inch layer of asphalt paved right up against its trunk.

The report tracks how decades of trapped roots and suffocated soil triggered heavy stress and dead twigs throughout the canopy. At the time, documenting this damage wasn't just about saving one oak—it provided concrete evidence of how bad paving practices ruin ancient trees. More importantly, it laid out an alternative management plan to strip back the asphalt, restore the ground, and give the tree room to breathe again.

That early management program became a real turning point. It set a new precedent for how Savannah handled its historic canopy and helped drive the fight for much stronger tree protection policies across the city.

Check out pages 4–7 to read the original blueprint that reshaped local tree care. We’ll drop the final pages soon!

Oooo that smell! (Part 3 is live!)

We are making serious headway at Bethesda, but let’s just say getting fresh mulch laid down out back was a major win for all of our noses!

Besides clearing up the air, we’ve been busy clearing out brush, organizing our new office space, and setting out picnic tables to make this place feel like home.

While digging around the grounds, we unearthed a massive stacks of bricks and we want you to be a permanent part of this nursery! Head over to the donation page on our website to order your own custom-etched STF brick. We’ll be laying them right here on site.

The main field is officially prepped, and our fencing and irrigation lines go up this Friday!

Go grab your custom brick on our site today, drop a comment, and follow along for the journey!

It’s a great way to gain hands-on experience on a flexible, part-time schedule.

You don't need a specialized degree to apply, just a dependable work ethic and a comfort with active outdoor labor.

To apply: Email your resume over to [email protected] to get started!

Part 2 is here, and we’re getting right into it!

Loaded up the truck with the real essentials today! Sunscreen, bug spray, a ton of water, and some OJ to keep the energy going.

The dumpster got dropped off at Bethesda Academy, so we went straight to work tackling a pretty crazy pile of debris. Check out that before and after shot in the video to see how much room we cleared!

Things are moving fast out here. Next up, we’re hoping to show you guys some big progress on our irrigation lines and the tree paddock itself!

Drop a comment, follow along, and stay tuned for what’s coming next!

Skidaway Straits with Savannah Canoe & Kayak last Saturday was an absolute highlight!

Huge thanks to all our tree friends who spent the day on the water with us. We logged some great miles starting out from Butter Bean Beach, chatted native coastal flora, and enjoyed an amazing day outdoors together.

Missed out on this trip? Keep an eye on our feed, we’ve got more outdoor adventures and canopy outings coming up soon!

The new tree nursery is coming together, and we couldn’t ask for a better partner than Bethesda Academy. Hosting our nursery on Bethesda’s beautiful, historic property gives us the exact space we need to bring our "Right Tree, Right Place" vision to life.

Our team’s been putting in serious work behind the scenes this week clearing out debris and getting the land ready. Now, the heavy lifting starts this weekend as we set up our fencing and irrigation lines!

We’ll be inviting you to jump in and get your hands dirty with us very soon.

Follow along to watch this space transform, and keep an eye out for upcoming volunteer workdays!
