Our lead SLP, Dvora Gottlieb shared this quote and we love it! lt so beautiful reflects the philosophy behind all we do at Savannah Speech & Hearing Center. Every child who walks through our doors brings unique strengths, potential, and possibilities. It is our privilege to support their growth, honor their individuality, help them find their voice and abilities.

“Children are not the people of tomorrow but are people of today. They have the right to be taken seriously, and to be treated with tenderness and respect. They should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be. The unknown person inside each of them is our hope for the future.”
— Janusz Korczak, 1929

Neuroplasticity. Have you heard of it? If you are a stroke or TBI survivor it may be a concept you've given a lot of energy to. Neuroplasticity is the brain's natural and remarkable ability to adapt and reorganize itself—basically rewiring itself and forming new neural pathways that can help restore function, strengthen abilities, and support recovery.

Our Speak Easy support group is excited to welcome a special guest this Friday, June 19: Sherry Odom, Founder and Executive Director of the Neuroplasticity Alliance, who will share her expertise and insights on neuroplasticity.

If you or someone you love has been affected by stroke or TBI, we invite you to join us. Please help us spread the word!

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉
We are so grateful to have received a grant from the H. V. Jenkins Fund of The Savannah Community Foundation!

This support will help us to significantly expand our advanced hearing testing services for infants and individuals of any age who cannot participate in traditional hearing evaluations. By bringing this specialized technology to our Center, more families will be able to access critical hearing healthcare right here in our community—without traveling hours away for testing.

Early diagnosis can make a life-changing difference, and this investment will help us serve more children and adults across Coastal Georgia and neighboring South Carolina counties for years to come.

Thank you to the H. V. Jenkins Fund and The Savannah Community Foundation for helping us improve access to hearing healthcare and create brighter futures for those we serve. 💙

💙 June 8 is Brain Tumor Awareness Day 💙
Brain tumors can affect so many aspects of daily life, including speech, language, cognition, memory, swallowing, and communication. While every person's journey is unique, support and rehabilitation can undoubtedly play an important role in helping individuals maintain and regain skills that contribute to independence and quality of life.

At Savannah Speech & Hearing Center, our speech-language pathologists work with adults experiencing communication and cognitive challenges related to brain tumors, stroke, traumatic brain injury, neurological conditions, and other medical diagnoses. Therapy may focus on:
🧠 Speech and language skills
🧠 Cognitive-communication abilities, including memory, attention, and problem-solving
🧠 Swallowing concerns
🧠 Strategies to support everyday communication and independence

We also offer Speak Easy, our support group for survivors of stroke, TBI and other medical conditions creating communication challenges. The group provides a welcoming space to connect with others, practice communication skills, build confidence, and share experiences.

📅 Fridays, 10:00–11:30 AM
📍 In person at Savannah Speech & Hearing Center or via Zoom

On Brain Tumor Awareness Day, we deeply honor all those navigating this journey and reaffirm our commitment to helping individuals find their voice, stay connected, and continue participating in the activities and relationships that matter most.

Does this sound familiar?
"Huh?"
"What?"
"You're mumbling."

Have you noticed yourself asking people to repeat themselves more often? Or feel like this is how many conversations with someone you love seem to go?

Does your child frequently say "what?" or seem to miss directions?

A hearing screening is a simple first step.

Savannah Speech & Hearing Center provides FREE hearing screenings for children ages 3 and older and adults who do not already have a hearing loss diagnosis.

✔ Thursdays by appointment at our Savannah center. Email [email protected].

✔ Saturday, June 27 at Carver Village Community Center by appointment here: https://calendly.com/jharcher-speechandhearingsav/30min

Thanks in part to funding from the City of Savannah, these screenings are available at no cost to our community.

Reach out today and take the first step toward better hearing health!

Today we celebrated the end of another beautiful year in Sound Start! 💛 We are so proud of our two sweet girls graduating from the program this year and all they have accomplished. Watching children with hearing loss grow in confidence, communication and connection is truly the heart of what we do.

Classes will resume in August, and we’re excited to welcome two new little ones into our full-time program! One of the things that makes Sound Start so special is that the program is offered entirely through full scholarships — making tuition one less thing for families navigating hearing loss to worry about.

Thank you to Hammond For Hope and everyone who supports this mission and helps make these opportunities possible for children and families in our community. 💙
