The Conscious Kitchen is an unprecedented, scalable program dedicated to a systemic transformation of school dining, to the health and improved life outcomes of our children, and to a thriving future for our planet. The Conscious Kitchen partners with schools to shift the paradigm, guiding them to implement food programs based on five foundational terms: fresh, local, organic, seasonal, non-GMO (F

LOSN). These terms form the heart of this groundbreaking program and define an unwavering commitment to nourishing children with ethically sourced and organically grown food. The Conscious Kitchen successfully breaks the cycle of unhealthy, pre-packaged, processed, heat and serve foods, transitioning to meals made with scratch-cooked ingredients purchased within USDA budgets and far exceeding nutritional guidelines.

Conscious Kitchen is a Food Planet Prize 2026 Finalist here in Sweden — one of four transformative innovations shaping the future of food systems worldwide. We are deeply proud to stand with our Conscious Kitchen team alongside NoPalm Ingredients, Savanna Institute, and Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming.

From thousands of ideas, FPP selected "solutions capable of fundamentally transforming global food systems to operate within planetary boundaries while ensuring healthy, equitable and resilient food futures," in the words of Professor Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, Food Planet Prize Jury co-chair.

Our four organizations represent four distinct and complementary pathways for food systems transformation and global change. We each approach it from a different angle and operate in a unique region, and thus have immense amounts to learn and share.

It is an honor to elevate the movement for fresh, local, organic school food on an international stage. We are grateful that our proven Conscious Kitchen model is being recognized for reshaping institutional food demand and ensuring healthier diets for our kids, while supporting regenerative food production. The power of food procurement can change what is grown and how food is grown, served and valued.

This gathering of like-minded global leaders in food systems has inspired us in more ways than we could have imagined. Thank you to the Food Planet Prize team, jury, past finalists, community, and everyone who has contributed to this extraordinary moment and ever-growing movement. A huge congratulations to Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming on receiving the 2026 Food Planet Prize and phenomenal work on the ground with farmers across India! We are energized, humbled, and more committed than ever to our local and collective work ahead.

After a long and exciting journey, we have officially arrived in Båstad, Sweden, where the 2026 finalists have gathered from around the world.

Over the past 48 hours, we've crossed oceans, settled into this beautiful seaside town, shared unforgettable meals, and had our first opportunity to connect with fellow finalists, former winners, jury members, and food systems leaders. It has been both humbling and inspiring to be surrounded by so many people working to create a healthier future for people and planet.

Already, one thing has become clear: while our approaches may differ, we share a common belief that food can be a powerful force for change — shaping health, livelihoods, communities, and and ecosystems.

Tomorrow, we will present Conscious Kitchen's work to the Food Planet Prize jury and share the story that so many organic farmers, school food leaders, students, and partners have helped build together.

It still feels a bit surreal to be here.

For everyone who has been part of this journey, thank you. We are honored to carry your stories with us. 🌱

Inspired by a popular menu item at Mt. Diablo USD and developed with input from The Alice Waters Institute, this comforting chana masala celebrates traditional North Indian cooking through fresh, nourishing ingredients and bold flavor. Simmered with warming spices and tender chickpeas, then finished with lightly cooked snap peas for a fresh, seasonal crunch, the dish is served over hearty grains and topped with a bright cilantro chutney. Flavorful, adaptable, and deeply satisfying, it’s a recipe that works beautifully across seasons and menus.

Our final workshop of the ‘25–‘26 school year was one for the books! 🌱

We had so much fun in LA last week at The Gourmandise School (). From starting the day with a tour of the Santa Monica Farmers Market, to conversations shared around the table, the day was filled with connection, inspiration, and momentum. Bringing together food service leaders, farmers, chefs, and partners from across the greater LA region reminded us what’s possible when we work together to expand fresh, local, organic food in schools.

Deep gratitude to everyone who joined us and helped bring the day to life. Together, we’re building stronger connections from fields to dining halls, and we can’t wait to see what the next year has in store. 🍓🥕✨

May’s Organic Produce of the Month: Romaine Lettuce! 🥬

Crisp, refreshing, and full of crunch, romaine lettuce is a staple of late spring meals. Beyond its versatility, romaine is packed with nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin K, folate, and antioxidants that support eye health, bone strength, and overall wellness.

Leafy greens like romaine grow best in healthy, nutrient-rich soil, making organic farming practices especially important. By avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, organic growers help protect soil ecosystems, conserve water quality, and support biodiversity both above and below the ground.

From fresh salads to wraps and sandwiches, organic romaine is a simple, nourishing way to enjoy the flavors of the season while supporting healthier food systems.

May’s Organic Produce of the Month: Blueberries! 🫐

Small but mighty, blueberries are one of spring and summer’s most beloved fruits. Known for their sweet-tart flavor and deep blue color, they’re packed with antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C that support brain health, digestion, and immune function.

Blueberries rely heavily on pollinators like bees for fruit production, making healthy ecosystems essential to their growth. Organic farming practices help protect these pollinators by reducing the use of synthetic pesticides and supporting more balanced, biodiverse growing environments.

Whether tossed into smoothies, baked into treats, or enjoyed fresh by the handful, organic blueberries are a delicious way to celebrate the season while caring for both people and the planet.

Over the weekend, we gathered under the trees at Frog Hollow Farm for our Dinner in the Orchard — a beautiful night celebrating the power of food, community, and collective action. 🌿

Around long tables filled with vibrant organic food, local wine, laughter, and conversation, friends old and new came together in support of a future where every student has access to fresh, local, organic meals.

To everyone who joined us, supported us, cooked alongside us, donated, volunteered, and helped bring this evening to life — thank you. To chefs Laurence Jossel () and Jennifer Sherman (The Alice Waters Institute), thank you for creating such an extraordinary meal using the freshest seasonal ingredients. And to Farmer Al and Becky () for opening your orchard to us so generously, we are endlessly grateful.

We left the evening feeling deeply inspired by the incredible community surrounding Conscious Kitchen’s work, and so grateful to be building this movement together. Here’s to a night we’ll remember for a long time to come. ✨

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo with fresh, flavorful food. 🌮🌱 These roasted veggie and bean tacos with avocado salsa highlight how simple, organic ingredients can come together to nourish both students and communities.

Throughout the year, you can use any seasonal vegetables you have on hand — roasted squash, mushrooms, zucchini, corn, and more. It’s all about cooking with what’s fresh and available.

At Conscious Kitchen, meals like these reflect something bigger: supporting local farmers, strengthening regional food systems, and making fresh, organic food more accessible in schools.

However you’re celebrating today, we hope it includes something fresh, flavorful, and made with intention. 💚

We had so much fun partnering with .co to explore how strong partnerships and regional infrastructure can move organic farm-to-school forward at scale. Through the DoD Fresh Program, we’re working together to connect local farms with school districts by creating a clear, actionable pathway for organic procurement that expands access to consistent, organic produce, supports reliable markets for farmers, and better aligns growers, distributors, and school communities.

We’re deeply grateful to the Valley team for hosting, and to the farmers and school food leaders who showed up ready to connect, share, and build. These are the kinds of spaces where real systems change begins. Together, we’re strengthening regional opportunities for organic food to reach more students.🙌🍑🥦🍓🥒
